For the TV Viewing Loungers:Does Anyone Else Feel the TV Seasons Have Flipped Quality Wise?

Admittedly for most of my life I have been something of a couch potato. I always looked forward with great eagerness to the bountiful offerings of the fall television season.

This year I am only planning to watch two returning shows: Castle and NCIS, the original. As far as the new crop, I might sample "Body of Evidence" and maybe the "Defenders" with Jerry O'Connel, and the one with Maura Tierney and Rob Morrow, but none of them really looks that promising. As to the rest frankly IMHO they all sound like the same old crap.

So now I am totally bummed that I will have to spend months and in some cases several months without the following:

The Glades on A and E
Leverage on TNT
White Collar on USA
In Plain Sight on USA
Rizzoli and Isles on TNT
The Closer on TNT

I think it is more to do with the fact that the quality of talent is just higher on cable now a days, but darn it why can't cable program in the fall too? At least spread the wealth out more between seasons.

Do any other TV fans feel this way?

I'd rather watch The Glades, Justified and In Plain Sight more than anything coming out this fall.

8. I was so happy when A and E

renewed the Glades. It's just so much better written than the average crime drama and Matt Passmore is great as the lead.

2. i stopped watching tv a couple years ago. hubby has dwindled last couple years

now he is mainly on history channel. kinda sad for him. i read.

4. I also feel bad for people who don't read.

I'm never bored. When I find myself with some free time, I just pick up a book. My husband spends his nights flipping from one channel to the next and never really likes the programs he's watching.

11. I love to read too but I feel for your husband as well.

There are times when I just feel like vegging out with some virtual company especially through the NY State Winters and there is almost nada to choose from on screen.

9. For all the channels being offered these days

there just isn't much of a selection of good or even half way decent shows anymore! Its kind of ironic. I love to read too. Recently I have also started downloading audio books onto my MP3 player from my local library, so that helps too.

3. 90% of my viewing is on the cable channels.

I watch maybe 5 hours a week on network, usually less. I have quit watching local news and even national network news. They're either RW BS or so inane I can't stand it.
I'm about ready to drop cable except there's about 3 shows I like that are not available on the internet.

12. I am with you on the national news on the nets.

I can't stand to watch it any more.I do usually watch the noon and five o'clock local news just to see the weather and if anything is going on nearby that I should know about. I will check into Rachel and Keith if something major is going on politically. Some mornings I will check on Headline News too if there is a big story going on. Not as much editoralizing going on there, just the straight news.

I feel the same way about cable too. I really only watch TNT, USA, A&E, HGTV,and Style (for Clean House only) on a regular basis. Occasionally I will tune into Animal Planet, DYI, Hallmark, SCYFY & Sleuth. I certainly could live without the million sports channels, news channels, shopping, and religious channels. I never watch the majority of them.

and of course Keith and Rachel for me.
College football this fall then that is about it.

7. I watch tv shows, but not on tv

I usually download or stream.

I have a tendency to find a show I like after it's been canceled. Firefly, Terminator: TSCC, Veronica Mars, etc. Since I'm too poor to buy dvds, then its piratebay or netflix, depending on what is where.

I watched NCIS up until around the time that Ziva came back from Israel. I just started getting bored with it; it seemed like they stopped solving normal crimes, and everything was counter-terrorism

14. I have been thinking about renting Firefly.

I love Nathan Fillion on Castle and also remember him from back when I used to watch One Life To Live. The price of DVD's TV sets seem to be going way up so I know what you mean about not being able to afford buying them. I am even starting to feel bad about asking for them as Christmas and Birthday gifts.

NCIS isn't as good as it used to be script wise that is for sure. I just watch for the chemistry between the cast, the one liners, and to be honest because I still find Mark Harmon very good looking, and out of habit.

19. Firefly is fantastic

too short, of course, but I love all the actors. A couple episodes were weak (thanks to Fox's demands, mostly) but at least 12 out of 14 are awesome...

The only downside is having so few episodes. You get attached, then boom, its gone. At least "Serenity" is there to at least kind of tie some things up

15. Wait for your local Blockbuster to go out of business,

You'll be able to buy any series you want for the most part for $5/disk or less(used, no packaging or supplemental content. Still...most series 5 disks or less. $25 a season? Reasonable.). You have to get there early though, the one across from where I work opened it's store-closing sale at noon and the store was empty of quality movies and series by 5pm the first day.

10. It's all about reality shows now

or 2012, Nostradamus, people with too many kids, spoiled rich housewives, babies in beauty pageants, hoarders, people with problems, and we are literally voyeurs in their lives, their problems are being pumped into our living rooms.

I watch HGTV, (I will admit, real housewives are my guilty pleasure), Food Network, Fine living.

16. My guilty pleasure is Clean House

I love that show and every once in ahwile I will watch Super Nanny and Ghost Hunters. I also watch Carter Can on Saturdays on HGTV regularly. I watch some of their other programs if I can't find anything else on.


Other than those few exceptions I don't really like the reality shows very much especially the Bachelor and those type shows.

I mostly like scripted shows that combine drama/humor which pretty much these days just limits me to a handful of cop shows. Most of the comedies these days are just IMHO full of lame innuendos and forgettable characters, and the straight dramas are snooze fests.

18. I gave up on regular programming when they cancelled all my favorite shows.

I never got interested in any of the newer ones. The last show I watched regularly was "The X-Files" which pretty much ran its course. I still watch the reruns on some cable channel.
