3 frozen pasture-raised, home processed chickens? If I was a doctor I sure as HELL would take chickens for payment.
Got a call last night from the son of a very good friend. They were transporting some big fat long yearlings to their small meat processing operation and had pulled over at The Thing?* to check tires/get gas. Well several of the floor boards in the trailer were shot or about to go so they were stuck. Being the closest "help" available we got the call. Of course it took a half hour to hook up our trailer grab some repair supplies, pump up low tires, attempt to rig up lights (failed) and grab a couple of beers from the sons (wrong end of youngest's pay cycle - old Milwaukee ice :puke: )
Then another 20 minutes to get out our shitty road without our own breakdowns. Thought we might have to back up to them and unload into our trailer in order to do the fix. Got up there by the 24 hour pumps under the lights and figured out we could slip a piece of plywood in and over the hole by wedging and shoving and eventually got it in without having to unload (a risky proposition if gates don't mesh well) We even got a second piece in towards the front where the floor boards were flexing more than I like to see, and loaned a rubber mat from our trailer for added coverage lengthwise.
I knew Paul would probably appreciate a cold one and he took it with no complaint. As "payment" he handed us three frozen chickens he was also transporting (they do several farmers markets around Tucson) woo hoo.
Feel a little sorry for the maintenance guy, as this morning he must have wondered WTF that greenish mess around the pumps was all about. 10 head of cattle standing around for 2 or 3 hours can leave quite a bit of liquid fertilizer on pavement.
Anybody in the Tucson area interested in good natural meat and eggs
http://www.doublecheckranch.com/I tried to down one of those nasty "beers" on the way home. I can drink some swill when it is ice cold and that is all there is, but OMG :puke::puke::puke:
