I've never gotten the vampire craze
I read the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Meh. She has much more interesting reads (about Sleeping Beauty..) but the Twilight appeal..is beyond me. Granted I haven't read them but I've heard from fellow fantasy readers that the writing is not good and that the writer is a Mormon who has a Abstinence Only agenda of sorts..which is weird considering that most writers consider vampire stories allegories for erotic behavior.
I like fantasy and the occasional horror too. I just don't get the appeal of vampires.

1. timeless stuff...
all about penetration without being about sex (OK, not True Blood, but I watch that FOR the sex  )

as for those sparkly dusted virgins from Twilight, they are not vampires, just anemics with super powers

3. Me neither
I read Anne Rice's stuff back in the day and thought it was fine, but it never inspired a vampire fascination in me. And this whole nonstop vampire/werewolf onslaught is getting seriously tedious--talk about groupthink--ugh. :eyes:

What I find frightening is that it just keeps coming, too. I belong to several writing Web sites where you can submit your ideas/opening chapters/query letters for critique, and EVERYbody is writing vampire shit.

Make. It. Stop. :banghead:

You are so entitled to your opinion - being that you haven't read the books or watched the movies.

(I've done both and they are truly crap)

But RPattz is still fucking eyecandy!

I be h8in on Vampires in general. They SUCK! LOL. The only vampires I like are the ones from Uberwald in the Black Ribbon Group..(Terry Pratchetts Discworld)

7. Whatever - and I don't want to start a battle over such a trivial subject
but you have decided to form an opinion on a specific subject.

If I had posted about a political topic or pharmachological topic and only gotten my information from shit my friends said on the internets you'd be all up in my ass about it.

Seems there's pots and kettles flying all over this site right now.

People who post angry stuff on message boards are doing it because of lack of intimate relationships. I hear its the hot new theory in the amateur internet psychologist groups.

8. I've never even read Anne Rice.
In fact, I don't think I've read any stories with vampyres, Earth-based or space-based ;)

I do like both Nosferatu movies as well as the horror soap opera "Dark Shadows", and the "space-vampires" in Stargate: Atlantis. But for the most part, there's just no appeal.

I'm guessing, too, that for most of those that are heavily into the current-day vampires that the ones I've just mentioned don't register.

26. The fad is getting pretty tired.
Edited on Thu Sep-16-10 02:06 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
A lot of copycats, copyvampires, whatever. While I've managed to avoid the Twilight series, on a friend's recommendation I'm reading a book, "Let Me In" (which has been made into a movie, "Let The Right One In"), about a Swedish child vampire. It's pretty good, and fortunately it seems so far to be avoiding the stale themes of the genre -- all that anemic lovelorn teen angst. But I'll be just as happy to see the fad vanish, like Dracula at dawn.

32. Let the Right One In is my all-time favorite movie
and one of my all-time favorite books.

I am afraid that the American remake is going to, well, suck...the trailer looked meh.

Hope I'm wrong.
