In honor of my Rush concert tonight, in which I can't WAIT to see Neil Peart do YYZ, I thought I would ask you guys what your favorite drum solo performance is.

28. What Puts Morello's Work Over The Top For Me Is That.....

.....contrary to 98% of drummers' riffs, there's not anything in the way of personal showiness, no snotty ego trip. Just extraordinary technical ability, completely in the service of propelling the music forward. In 5/4 time, yet.

You have good taste in percussionists......

otherwise most solos are pretty dull and self indulgent. As a guitarist I feel that most guitar solos are even more self indulgent and dull than drum solos.

It may not be what most people think of in terms of drum solos, but any drummer will love this. If you don't know what Blast! is, it's basically a Broadway version of Drum Corps International.

It has several general sections... If you're not a big DCI fan, go straight to 3:33 and start from there

26. This is really a laugh for me - I listen to everyone's favorite and I love them all...

I love a really good drummer, and thankfully we have been blessed with aome great ones over the last 50 years or so...I can't really think of an overall favorite, but one of my top favorites is the late Tony Thompson, who played with Power Station/Robert Palmer an dmany others includnig Chic.
He was a performing drummer since age 11, and had a very powerful unique stye as found inPower Station's "Some Like It Hot"....

My understanding is that in 2003 Tony felt like he had the flu, and was diagnosed with renal cancer and died within a month. Singer Robert Palmer had died of a heart attack just a short time before.

I was too young to really appreciate a good drummer (I was more intrested in the ex-Duran Duran members) but I had the good fortune to see him...:)
