When you die, what music do you want playing?
Just finished watching "Soylent Green" and when Saul was at the euthanasia center, he had some classical going. Some of it was Beethoven's 6th, though I didn't recognize the rest.

While I do love the 6th Symphony, I think I'd like Beethoven's 9th to be the last sounds I hear. "Ode to Joy" would be a great send off :D

6. I hope you weren't laughing when you lost that
but laughing when you die might not be so bad, either :)

Here's some calliope music to play:

and

I'll Fly Away by Alison Kraus and Gillian Welch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmaJr9XTxQU&feature=related

and then just a mix of all the acoustic music that I love.

50. OK, tough guy...here's your link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6ibl6PIKPM

I posted the studio version because of the whammy bar moment I referred to in the OP...I'm not sure if he's simply shaking the shit out of Old Black's Bigsby tailpiece or shaking the guitar itself (my guess is BOTH).

The whammy bar moment is at the 8:45 mark.

Oh, and I want a clause in my will that states that if any motherfucker says "OH, that's so LOUD, this is a FUNERAL, must it be so LOUD" that it gets turned UP and they get thrown OUT. On their ASS.

The whammy bar moment at 8:45 is oh-so-sad. (is it really in the ballpark of people that we know today? NO!)

It can't be helped.

Guitar technique moves on like Gum-a-saurus gives way to Carcharocles Megalodon. You know this like I know this.

NY is a damn fine MUSO, but he's no ace guitarist.

53. But he's damn fine BECAUSE he isn't an ace guitarist
Same for Lou Reed. Lou probably has less than HALF the technique that Neil has, but when he has that left channel / right channel guitar battle with the late Bob Quine of "The Blue Mask," it's fucking SURREAL:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCXA7RRoD0M

Yeah, on a technical level it's dogshit, but...

...a guy like Steve Vai who has an unbroken, unrelenting, steady stream of technique flowing out of his ass can play his blue-haired "Alien Love Secrets" bullshit for two hours without playing anything that moves me for two seconds.

YEAH, I said it...fuck Vai. With a few exceptions, like the Public Image Ltd. album. But his solo albums? This is EXACTLY the kind of thing Christine O'Donnell is working so hard to STOP.

Fine.

So you end your post with the ROFL smiley. Like an LOL ending. Which, nine times out of ten, is an "I'm behaving like an asshole" post.

But, did you mistake me for a Steve Vai fan? You're sadly mistaken.

But: even Steve Vai fans hate Alien Love Secrets. (www.jemsite.com have a look around)

However, I'd say that Passion and Warfare is worth ten times anything you can suggest from those stumblebum guitarists mentioned above.

57. No, I didn't mistake you for a Steve Vai fan. I'm not mistaking you for anything.
He's just one of the first technique players that comes to mind, having gotten his start transcribing impossible Frank Zappa pieces like "The Black Page."

And if I'm behaving like an asshole, well, so be it, what the fuck. People "get" artists like Neil Young or they don't. It's not my personal mission to be in agreement with you or anyone else about what I like. And unless I'm mistaken, the O.P. was " When you die, what music do you want playing?," not an invitation to a pissing contest, which this has become.

Seriously, I read something like "So you end your post with the ROFL smiley. Like an LOL ending. Which, nine times out of ten, is an "I'm behaving like an asshole" post." and immediately think fuck this, see ya around.

So call me some other things about me if you'd like but I won't see them, because the time has come to click your little red x. Good night.

That P.I.L. album, especially "Home," where Lydon howls "Spare no men, match bomb for bomb" and Vai just goes OFF is a thing of beauty.

It's the esoteric solo stuff that turns me off, it's just pure wank.

And yeah, I grew up with "Destroyer" and "Kiss Alive" so you'll never hear me say a bad word about Frehley. Simmons and Stanley suck on a Biblical scale for letting Tommy Thayer wear Ace's makeup in the current edition of the band.

Especially where it's "officially sanctioned" in that world and equipped to make the death as pleasing as possible ;)

It must have left an impression on some of us to remember it with just the slightest of hints.

I probably know your choice if I heard it again (like at an art film theater while waiting for the movie to start :P)

Now I'm wondering if I should change my choice to Peter Schickele's "Eine Kleine Nicht Music"

"Gonna take me up to that spirit in the sky". And I'm not sure who did this but one more is "One Toke Over the Line Sweet Jesus.."
But the song I have actually asked for is "Funeral for a Friend" and "Love lies bleeding" off of the Elton John LP, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".
