I got freakin' hit by a car yesterday.
I was croossing the street at a corner. Walk sign was on. Then some jackass with the "sun in his eye" turned left and smacked me. Went over the corner of his hood, smacked my face into the concrete, and cracked the end of my radial bone. Ambulance came and went to emergency room where i got patched up. Now I'm sitting at home and I'm fucking hurting.

Worst part....just finished my term at my abusive job and decided to take a break....play guitar, work out, take my car on a road trip to visit friends (manual transmission car...). Now all my plans are fucked...I can barely even type this. Can't even play video games.

God....someone post somethinng to make me feel better.

1. Man, I don't know if I can make you feel better. That's a real blow.
Especially since it derailed those other cool plans.

I'm not sure how I would handle this.

Maybe try to look forward to a decent settlement in your favor.

In the meantime, maybe take it as it comes.

Watch out for the painkillers. People go over the edge and can't get back sometimes.

The timing of this is terrible I know.

Maybe try to realize that some eventual good could come of it.

Each day from here on out will be a little different and possibly a little better.

No one stays down forever.

All the best, Evoman.

I'll be thinking of you.

Cheers from a fellow guitar player, work outter, road tripper.

:)

2. About the only thing I can think of that might make you feel better
is to realize that you could have been left feeling nothing at all.

Damn. I hope you get a good attorney and make the guy pay.

I'm really sorry you are hurting and all your plans have been fucked.

11. Holy shit!
I don't know if it will help but I bet you will feel better in a couple days. The first few are the worst for a tumble (thinking horses in my case) mostly because you tense up so many muscles that aren't used to it in the trauma.

Keep moving whatever parts will move so you don't get stiff.

Scary! Could have been MUCH worse. Hope you heal fast and get to enjoy some of your time off.

12. I know pain well.
I've broken two ribs, a collar bone, one vertebrae and compressed all of the cervical discs at once and went with scarce medical treatment. I recieved 4 mg of morphine in the ER and a scrip for 5 days of Vicodin. The clavicle was pretty "tented" until the reduction. My upper body turned every color of the rainbow. I did not sleep for days. I sat awake and moaned and prayed to deities that I typically have scarce faith in.

The pain will pass. Ice packs work well. You can take as much as 8 Advil per day. Watch out for the bad gas side effect. Lots of rest, water, ginger, pineapple, collagen, Vitamin C + multivitamins, yogurt and fish oil will speed your recovery, but thats not medical advice...just personal experience.

There is much to study about the guitar without playing the guitar.

I did not start to feel better until I realized how lucky I was. I nearly broke my neck and, after a 18 month recovery, am still a walking, cycling, guitar playing fool. There are many who have done what I did or had accidents like you had and they aren't doing those things at all. I realized that any day you can put your feet on the floor, get up, walk to the toilet, take a poo and wipe your own ass is a pretty fucking awesome day.

You know by now that it could have been so much worse, but that's scarce comfort when you're in pain anyhoo.

Take your meds, see your docs, talk to a lawyer, and keep thinking about your guitar, video games, working out, and specially, the road trip. Road trips are very good for working out issues of any kind, I've found.

Take care! :)

30. Glad you are still around
Hurting sucks. Having your plans screwed up sucks. Not being around to worry about those things suck even worse.

When my horse fell and landed on my right leg crushing my ankle, I was real depressed about the pain, about the problems in getting to class (I was still in college) and about messing up my plans for training that horse. Then I saw a news program about a girl who had a similar accident - riding her horse along a highway, horse spooked onto the road. She was more unlucky than I was. The truck following the one that spooked her horse hit and killed both of them. I didn't feel so bad and have been grateful that I was lucky no one was right behind the truck that had passed us.

As for screwing up your plans, it is a real pisser. In 1993 I was in the middle of a concentrated study of Japanese embroidery. In addition, I had a new young stallion that I had hopes of riding and showing myself. At a show, the colt reared and snatched my left arm. Eight months of agony later, I finally had the surgery to reconstruct the rotator cuff and re-atttach two major muscles so I could lift that arm again. I've never been able to get my confidence or balance back to ride like I used to. I did spend a lot of time studying embroidery and needlework and have returned to it.

While studying guitar really takes playing it, you may be able to train your ear by listening to good music. Maybe when you've healed a little, you can trade cars and get an automatic so you can drive. Or do you have a friend that could travel with you and do the driving?

Be careful with the drugs - taking half doses more often can be more effective than full doses less often. If you are still hurting, talk to the doctors - pain and inflammation can interfere with healing. With my bad knees, I find anti-inflammatories do me more good than the Vicodin. I've got piroxicam, a generic version of Feldene, and it is terrific when my knees flare up. I save my Vicodin for when nothing else does any good and I just want to pass out for a few hours.

Here is a bright point - you said you wanted to work out? The re-hab will give you a structured program.

34. Yeah,,,,,could have been a lot worse.
It's just that I've had a bad year. Moved to city for a job. Turned out to be a nightmare. Stuck it out for a year...needed heavy duty anti-depressants. I did it all so I could have this time. Got off the meds. On the day of the accident, had just gotten great career counseling. Getting ready to go onn trip......and blam. I'll get over this, and I'm not into believing in luck or destiny.....but right now, can't help feeling sorry for myself.

39. I know exactly where you are coming from
But now that you are probably over the worst of the shock, don't get depressed again - think of alternatives for the immediate future. Maybe lots of listening to good music until the elbow heals. Or some other project that does not take two functional arms.

It's hard not get get into the dumps when something like this happens. But there are ways to handle it and be productive, even if all you do is spend time on DU!

Good luck - I know how rough it is.

37. Perhaps the universe is looking out for you.
By not being able to go somewhere or do anything because you're hurt, which BTW thank Goddess you're ok, may have prevented you from being involved in a more serious accident.

Story for you.....

There once was an Indian Chief that was greatly loved by his people. His tribe had many fine horses in their herd but the finest stallion of them all belonged to the Chief and the people said that their Chief was truly a lucky man. To this the Chief would only respond by saying,'perhaps'. Then one day the Chiefs stallion disappeared and the people said that it was horrible tragedy to lose such an amazing horse. Again the Chief only responded by saying, 'perhaps'.

Many weeks had passed and no sign of the Chiefs prized stallion. The people couldn't understand why their Chief was so happy and seemingly not concerned at all by the loss of his beautiful horse and then suddenly off in the distance the people heard the pounding of many, many hooves and to their surprise over the hill were dozens upon dozens of new horses and at the lead was the Chiefs prized stallion. The people rejoiced and they said that it was a great blessing. There were many new mares to add to their herds but most of all the Chiefs stallion had returned. The people said he is indeed the luckiest man. Un-fazed by all the many praises the Chief said quietly, 'perhaps'.

The Chief had a son and one day while breaking in some of these new horses he had fallen and had seriously broken one of his arms. The people gasped and all were sad and said that it was horrible that the Chiefs son had broken his arm. Still the Chiefs only response was, 'perhaps'.

Then a great war broke out between two tribes and all the young braves and warriors grabbed their weapons and rode out to war on their best ponies, all except the Chiefs son. With his broken arm he was unable to pull his bow or throw his lance and therefore was not able to join the other warriors and as it turned out the tribe suffered a great defeat and none of their warriors returned home alive. But the Chief still had his only son.

So 'perhaps' what seems to be a horrible turn of events on its face is really a blessing in disguise and the universe is watching out for you :loveya:

There's always an up-side to everything. Feel better fast.

38. I walk or ride my bike to work every day
And every time I step into a crosswalk -- WITH THE LIGHT AND LITTLE WHITE WALKING MAN -- I turn and look left. No lie when I say at least three times a day on my RTP walk, some moran turns right without looking, just wanting to Beat.That.Light.

Sucks you don't feel good. Get a personal injury attorney and get some money out of it. I'm serious. Call someone tomorrow. Maybe they won't do it again after their rates get jacked the fuck up.

Feel better.
