Sumner to be exact. I would get a hotel room, but I don't think that there's anything close that has truck parking. What's going to really suck about this, aside from having to sit without generating income, is that I won't have access to a shower. :yoiks:

But I have some books, a computer, and a cell phone, so I shouldn't get too bored, anyway. There was a time when I didn't have any of those things out here on the road. I don't know how I got along without them.

Just call me Stinky.

1. Hey Tobin
Can you drop the trailer someplace and bobtail to a motel?

There might be a company with a compound or fenced yard that will let you drop your trailer there.

2. There is no secure place here that I know of
I can drop my trailer where I am right now, but I'd need a king pin lock or a glad hand lock or someone could just come in and pick it up and go. Even with a lock I still wouldn't feel quite right about it seeing as how I still have a bunch of freight on.

I do have a book that lists a few hotels in the area. I may call them just to be sure, but I don't think I'll be able to get into any of them.

9. Pin locks are useful but
no guarantee that the trailer would be safe for sure. Freight on the box is another good reason not to leave it.

Good luck finding something Tobin.

5. That's true
In Philadelphia they would actually call me stinky. Out here the people are too polite to do that.

4. Look for a frontage road motel.
Edited on Mon Sep-27-10 10:05 AM by mnhtnbb
I've seen rigs parked on frontage roads in front of Red Roof Inn and La Quinta near our Interstate 40 on-ramp locally.

There are many hotels throughout the country that have truck parking
Space is at a premium out this way and in most major cities. I might be able to find one close, and I'm going to give it a try here in a bit, but I doubt I'm going to find anything.

15. I would think if you were going to be there for two days,...
running out I-90 to exit 34 would be worth it.

And if I remember correctly, there is a motel right across the street from that TA as well.

A half hour or 45 minute drive for a 2 day stay would seem worth it to me.

16. That's the one I was talking about
It would cost almost $50 to get there and get a shower and get back to where I need to be. No guarantees that I'll get a parking space, either. When I stopped in there yesterday evening there wasn't a spot to be had.

19. Well, there is likely to be a spot open now,...
but I understand the cost concerns.

As I told you the other day - your gray hairs are being caused by being an OO!!

Where in Seattle are you, anyway?

You have my sympathies, old hand. I never had to deal with the sorts of things you are dealing with. For me, fuel was always paid by the company and for many of the years I was on the road, I had a Corporate Lodging card or at least a per diem to pay for a room in situations like this. I'll admit, I got spoiled.

20. I'm in Sumner down on the southeast side
I'm in luck! I just found a motel that has truck parking within a few miles of me. That surprised me. :) Rates are reasonable, too.

22. Excellent! Good.
I hate the idea of any driver having to sit in his tuck with no facilities for any longer than a few hours.

My personal opinion? They should saw every sleeper off of every truck out there and give the drivers a proper place to sleep and get cleaned up.

OK, I realize that isn't reasonable, but if a driver gets a forced layover, PARTICULARLY WHEN HE IS LOADED, the shipper and the consignee should pick up the tab for a room.

and plenty of tapes and books for those long layovers.

11. I do have access to sort of a sink
One of those metal troughs that you push a pedal down on the floor to get water to flow. The water pressure is low. It's good for brushing teeth and washing hands and face, but that's about it. It's in the men's room and I'm not about to get naked and start splashing water all over the place. I'm much too modest for that, and the janitor would hate my guts. :)

12. You have access to a store, convenience or drug?
Baby wipes will remove the heavy funk. Won't make you feel flower fresh, but people will be able to stand down wind from you.

14. I luv me some unscented baby wipes.
With aloe. Never leave home without 'em.

You can de-funkify yourself quite nicely with those, in a pinch, there, Stinky.

I mean Tobin.

Even make a handy emergency cleaning rag.
