Poll question: Favorite Elton John tune
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 12:35 AM by undisclosedlocation
I took nominations earlier, and got many great ones. However, there was kind of limited agreement, so I'm leaving some blank spots. If you want different tunes on here, yell real loud in a reply below and I'll add them in (along with an "other" option) in something less than an hour.

Here's fine suggestions from the nominations thread:
Crocodile Rock xx
Island Girl xx
Bennie and the Jets
Burn Down the Mission xx
Candle in the Wind xx
Daniel xx
Mad Man Across the Water xx
Blue Eyes xx
I'm Still Standing xx
Pinball Wizard xx
Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)
Capt. Fantastic
Mona Lisas/ Mad Hatters
I Think I'm Going to Kill Myself
Someone Saved My Life Tonight
Sad Songs Say So Much
Yell Help
The One
Stan w/Eminem
Social Disease
Dirty Little Girl
I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues
Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting
Song For Guy
Don't let the sun go down on me
Elderberry Wine
Take Me to the Pilot
Can You Feel The Love Tonight
Philadelphia Freedom

1. Just add "Other," and let us rock on
Oh, the memories of my college years. "Philadelphia Freedom" - a hit when I met and bedded a goddess, then a road trip across the U.S. with two college buddies. How can I not like that song? (Sadly, Minnie Riperton's "Loving You" was a hit at the same time, and my finger still bears the scars from hitting the radio push button too hard and fast to get that tripe off my car radio.)

7. take me to the pilot was pretty good
or whatever is the last song in the concert so I can go home.

Elton is sort of like chinese food, nice going down but ultimately unfulfilling.

But the Mrs Arewethereyet is crazy about him so I plunk down the huge bux when he's nearby for her.

8. I've cast my vote for Levon but I have a question ...
Does anyone remember the "Friends" album (no, not that "Friends") or the early, early "Empty Sky"?

12. That's why I do the nominations threads; DUers never fail to astonish
I used to just list the nine biggest hits and Other, but got so much outcry about songs I left out that I switched to this approach. Seems to work a little.:)

10. Ok, so I lied
Added "Phila Freedom" as I regard it as perhaps the most finely-crafted pop song ever, and "Someone Saved My Life" 'cause it's probably his best collaboration with Bernie from the first go-round. My own choices would be "Empty Garden" or "FFF/LLL" as mentioned in the nominations thread, though I'll probably vote for "Someone Saved" to make sure that at least one person does.

14. The Greatest Discovery never fails to make me tear up.
My favorite album is Live In Australia With The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. I also love "Sixty Years On" and "Tonight". What can I say? I'm a sucker for the melancholia.

Thank you. Now I need to go find that cassette and get my fix!

17. Gray Seal - another early one
that I left off the original list.

Of the later ones I like:

I'm Still Standing
Sad Songs Say So Much
I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues

And the one about A Father and His Son, that is just heartbreaking...

the version done by Me First and the Gimmme Gimmes is what we are going to use as the title themesong for "The Adventures of Rex Raygun" once we get it on the air.

22. The Madman across the water album was great.
It's been all downhill since then. It seems that way with so many artists/bands. The first couple of albums are the best and the rest are forgettable.
