A happy, accidental golden ratio
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 11:55 PM by tridim
I love when this happens. Today at the hardware store I picked out three cans of paint to freshen up my kitchen and living room, a light green, a mustard yellow, and a bright red. I chose the colors based solely on the fact that the swatches "looked" good together, totally random otherwise. I came home and remembered I had a program that would select three colors based on the golden ratio (phi). Phi triad colors are supposed to be pleasing to the eye. Phi is also the natural ratio found in all sorts of things, like the human body, sea shells and the Parthenon. Anyway, I scanned and plugged in my three paint swatches and they turned out to be almost an exact match to the golden ratio!

Seems as if my brain is in tune today. So I got that going for me. :)

Edit: Some fun Golden Ratio sites

2. Not really surprising.
We're "in tune" to those things that adhere to this 'rule.' If you look at your fingers you'll see another real world application. There's a reason it has the name it does; this mathematical arrangement for limbs and appendages seems to be an optimal adaptation for our species and others.
