Teacher Hung Student On Hook By His Belt Loop - Arrested

A Brooklyn elementary school teacher was arrested Monday on child endangerment charges after suspending a 5-year-old student by his pants' belt loop on a hook inside a classroom closet.

Police arrested Jason Schoenberger, 24, at PS 279 on E. 104 Street in Canarsie in connection with a practical joke pulled on another instructor last Thursday at the school.

Schoenberger, a music teacher for the past two years, allegedly suspended the 5-year-old student on a coat hook in the closet of his classroom.

Schoenberger then told another teacher that he couldn't find the student and asked the teacher to look in the closet, police said.

The teacher was startled by the sight of the suspended student, who police and school officials said apparently was in on the gag.

Old swede and Norwegian farmers around this part of the state. Many years ago if they were caught speaking Swedish or Norwegian in school they would be run up the flag pole in front of the school.
