We got a game going this Friday night.

Texas Hold 'Em.

3. Well.....

I love to play Texas Hold'Em too, but I only play for "play-money" on PokerStars and in freeroll tournaments.

Don't start playing for money unless you can beat everyone who starts in a typical freeroll tournament. If you do, it's "bye-bye" to all your money and real quickly too.

4. I limit myself to $25 per night.
Most hands have a pot of around $5, though towards the end the pots can grow much larger.

And...I only play once a month or so.

7. I don't play for money online
I play quite low stakes w/ friends. Sorta a 1-table tourney set up. Generally a $3-5 buy-in and winner-takes-all.

9. You're fine then.
Our buy in is $25. Last time we played, the guy to the right of me was out after only about 30 minutes. So he got out another $25 and lost that too before the night was out.

I don't have that kind of money to throw around, at least not on gambling.

5. I hear you...
..I play every Monday with friends, we play Texas Hold'em, and a few other Poker variations (5 card, 7 card, Omaha, Vegas, etc.)...and we start off with a $20 buy-in. I have a problem stopping if I lose the $20, I keep going in my pocket...last night I was $80 in the hole, but then I opened a can of whoop-ass, and made $57 back, so I 'only' lost $23...Love the game!

8. Great game...
just don't bet real money on it. Play online instead, like in a free poker room in Yahoo Games.

You can gamble there all you want and not bet a dime of real money. :)

10. That's where I play! Yahoo is great for poker and black jack...
and like you said, no risk, cause it isn't real money.

11. yahoo sucks
it's not real money, so everyone just raises and calls everything

the playmoney rooms on sites like partypoker are better because most of the people are actual poker players.

13. right. you can play with fake money on partypoker
but the people there actually know how to play, so it's a lot more fun. at yahoo you have a lot of plays who just click the raise/call button every time, no matter what their hand

15. We need a DU poker room somewhere
Seems there are enough of us that we could have a rousing good time. I play at Yahoo and at pacificpoker.com, where there are private play money tables.........haven't tried pokerstars yet but it sounds like quite a few people like it.
