I wish I hadn't sold those Public Enemy and A Tribe Called Quest CDs I used to have a long time ago -- the sorry state of rap today makes me long for those guys.

And I will never be a pop music snob -- there's more inspiration in the Spice Girls than there is in The Smiths.

It is meaningless except to make money and fill time, but I love arguing about it. I wish I had not gotten rid of the same CDs as you. But the Smith's first album was great when it came out. They did not follow the usual verus, chorus, verse, plus endrhyme thing that almost everyone still does.

I am not a pop music snob, that would be beneath me. I am a plain old-fashioned intellectual elitist snob. I could not care less if you live in a trailer or penthouse, as long as you are very well read.

Seems like not much is similar to the R&B of old. R. Kelly is good despite his problems, and you may like Ashanti's newest, but I'm not a fan. There are worse out there: Monica for one.

Nah, seriously though, it'd be hard for me to describe you based on your collection 'cause your tastes seem to be pretty diverse. That's a good thing, though! I will say that I know of (not in the Biblical sense, of course!) about 3/4th's of the artists you listed and like at least one song by all of those I know. And Ben Folds Five are awesome!

Apologies if I'm coming across as some sort of blatant thread hijacker, but I think Paragon has a cool idea so I figured I'd post myself. Analyze me if you want! I acknowledge the weird diversity of my music tastes. I should also say that this is sort of a misrepresentation of my music collection, as the majority of it is on vinyl but since a lot of that stuff is simply stuff I collect more than that I really listen to I figured it would be too complicated (and long) trying to post those. That you are some sort of clone of myself, I think. If that helps. No no seriously

I think it shows that you like melodic music, but some of it with a hard edge so that it's not necessarily pop. Your genre is very pop-rockish. Groups like Third Eye Blind, The Goo Goo Dolls, Michelle Branch are popular, are essentially a less hardcore for of rock, but a lot of the hooks are pop.

Maybe it also shows you have a spot for lyrics in music, because a lot of those groups (especially the beatles, the goo goo dolls) have no only brilliant musical skills, but very good songwriting skils.

Or I could be talking about myself, since I like almost everyone on your list! :hi:
