40. I used to love getting those at the movie theater when I was a kid
in the late 50s and early 60s.

Like a mini sampler.

2. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a foot long and it was shaped kind of like a double
helix, or two sine waves, one with reversed polarity. It was made of caramel and was covered in chocolate. It was awesome and I can't remember what it's called. Anyone? Anyone?

5. It was called the Marathon Bar
And you're right, that was a GREAT candy bar. You had to freeze it to eat it--otherwise the caramel would stick to your teeth and you'd never get it off--but it was great.

About as good as it gets: the Cadbury Curly Wurly, which is available at http://www.amazon.com/Cadbury-Curly-Wurly-Pack-Bars/dp/B000HNF8ZW

That was the first candy bar I thought of even before I clicked on this thread. I loooooooved it--I still love caramel--and when I was little it seemed to go on forever (it probably wasn't as giant as I recall though).

to Snickers Almond. I think regular Snickers are one of the most, if not THE most popular candy bars out there. I'm betting they changed the name of Mars bars to attract the Snickers fans.

27. Almond Cluster
Once a sibling of Mounds and Almond Joy, I seem to remember it having crushed almonds instead of the whole ones like Almond Joy, and maybe it had some rice-krispie-ness to it. Anyway, they were my favorites back in my elementary school days.

38. And you whacked it to break it into little pieces...
loved those TV commercials. I missed the earliest days when it was sold in Woolworth's and someone broke it up with a ball-peen hammer and sold it by weight.

The stuff is back now, although the Bonomo family might not be involved, and it's not that widely available.

47. The Reggie! and Yaz! bars
actually shaped like patties rather than bars, which may explain their relatively quick demise.

As might a bit of regionalism: after a while, the makers of the original Reggie! bar noticed they were selling almost no candy in New England (anywhere above southern CT). Thus was born the Yaz! bar -- the exact same bar, only with a picture of the Sox legend on the wrapper!.
