When I was a kid here (late 80's, early 90's) we'd trick-or-treat until 10 or 11 at night. That was a good thing, because that meant that the kids could walk around and still make it to a decent number of houses. Now you either have to go drop your kids off in one of the reliable neighborhoods where most families participate, or else drive your kid around your own neighborhood and look for the few-and-far-between porch lights. If you try to walk it, the participating houses are so far apart that you'll only make it to 5 or 6 before your time runs out.

I swear, when I'm out of school, I want to make sure that we move to a place where there's still strong participation in Halloween. Watching the holiday die slowly here in northern West Virginia is just sad--especially since it's my second-favorite time of the year. :(

1. Most people that are giving out treats don't pay attention to the "timeline"
I pretty much stay with it 'til the kids or the candy gives out.

5. It's not like that here, unfortunately.
LyricKid got turned away from three houses last year because he didn't see their cul-de-sac until 10 minutes after the "official" time was over. They said, "Sorry, it's past time now", shut the door, and turned off the porch light.

*I*, on the other hand, would gladly give out candy until we run out. I wish people could advertise in advance, "Hey! You can trick-or-treat here after 7:30 :)" But the kids were mortified last year by the refusals, so now they're paranoid about keeping within the time limit.

Poor kiddos. :(

2. Man, what a bummer. :^( My town loves Halloween. They even host a kid's
party and Haunted House in the town hall.

4. They did that too!
Halloween fell on a Sunday this year, and we simply couldn't have THAT. :eyes: So they changed it--the kids all went trick-or-treating last night.

Soooooo tired of this hole. x(

7. We, in central Arkansas
largely thumbed our noses at the nonsense, and trick-or-treated the hell out of it last night (10/31).

We drove into Conway about 10 miles away to my sister's neighborhood. We were racking up so much, we didn't even get to come back and trick-or-treat our own neighborhood.

I speak, of course, of me and ChoralKiddo.
