So, Maybe a New Cat?
I'm kicking back, relaxing and watching teevee, and a neighbor from about 4 doors down comes knocking. I don't know her that well, but she remembers me from about 4 years ago when one of my cats went missing and the kids and I went door-to-door handing out flyers and searching for Shadow (who was eventually turned into the Shelter, half her original size but has never left the house since.) Aaaannyway, this lady remembered us, and she tells me that she opened her door this evening and a cat came running into her house out of nowhere. Just real friendly, and wouldn't leave. So she put it in a room, and started knocking on doors to find an owner, couldn't find one and came to me. She runs a daycare and can't keep a stray cat. So my son and I took a cat carrier and went down there, picked up this kitty and have brought it home. It's in a spare bedroom now, with a litterbox and food and water.

It's beautiful!! Long hair black and white, very friendly, curious, purring. We'll take it down to the Shelter tomorrow - I'm sure that someone is looking for it. But if not, I'll let the staff know that we'll definitely adopt it. Didn't have to think twice before deciding that one. I've taken in - what, 4 strays from this neighborhood already. But this one doesn't seem like a stray. We'll see.

Might be we'll have a new family member soon. :)

4. Well, of course!

Let me know if you recognize this kitteh!
I can't believe that someone somewhere is not missing this beauty desperately. Haven't gotten close enough to figger out if it's a he or she, but whatever, hope it finds it way home soon.

What am I saying?? If it doesn't, it has a home here. Duh. Friendly, purring, the other cats are fascinated - how could I not take in another one? LOL

7. Beautiful kitty!
I have known a few black and white cats and they have been very friendly. Actually had a b&w dog who came running into our house when I opened the door. He thought it was his house, I found out when his real family posted "Lost Dog" signs up and down the block. They had stairs just like ours and the dog was confused.

Yeah, I'll go with that in case this one becomes a member of the family.

It's funny. I have a cat I took in off the street in this neighborhood, a feral I trapped and neutered and tried to return - who eventually just became an indoor cat and now lives inside all the time - who looks just like this one. Exact same markings, only a short hair instead of long-hair. Maybe they're related, I dunno.

I'm liking this one so much, trying not to get attached, but I go in the room and spend time with him/her - I think it's a her cause the face is narrow, not like the jowly tom-catty face - but if he/she has a family, he/she needs to go home, of course.
Edit for spelling.

11. An update on the kitty
Strange story, anyway. I don't know quite what's going on, but this is how it went: when I was doing the paperwork, the Shelter lady said that she could take the found report, check it against any lost reports, and since the Shelter is so crowded it might be best to take the kitty home and if the owner was located, the owner would get in touch with me directly. She'd check for a microchip, and then I'd take the kitty home for the time being. Well, kitty IS microchipped - so I felt good that it would get to go home, it's a nice feeling. Then the lady went back to call the owner, and things got strange. She came back out and said that no, the cat would stay at the Shelter as a stray intake after all. I'd be put on an adoption application as the first consideration for an adoption "If the owner doesn't pick the cat up." I didn't want to get too nosy, but while I was finishing up the application, I could hear an indignant conversation going on in the office, and the gist was that the owner was not willing to come down and get the cat, and that this was not the first time that this had happened with this owner. Which just baffles me, cause this guy - he's a neutered 5 year old male - is such a sweetheart, I saw no bad habits or manners at all.

Anyway, I was told to call on Thursday and if necessary - if the owner definitely decided not to pick the kitty up - I'll be set up for an in-home adoption interview. I'm having mixed feelings now - I want to see him go home, but not to a home where he'll not be treated like the wonderful guy he is. So - we shall see.

14. Well, kitty went back to the owner
I fully expect, almost hope really, that I see him soon, outside, so that I can bring him into my home. With his apparent history, and as sweet as he is, I'd like to add him to the family.

Anyway, that's the rest of the story.

16. If he comes back, as he hopefully will....
don't take him to the shelter. Keep him. :)

Do you know where the "owner" is?
