The Walking Dead premiere - questions (SPOILER alert)
I thought it was pretty good overall after the somewhat cliched start (you just knew that little girl was going to be a zombie when she turned around... and then him waking up in the abandoned hospital reminded me of the beginning of "28 Days Later"

However, in the beginning, I was also not paying 100% attention due to some other things going on outside the TV.

Was the beginning with the little girl a dream sequence? Or, did he have a flashback after he shot her that showed how he got there?

And, nothing was ever explained between Rick Grimes going into the hospital & him waking up to find the world zombified until he met the african american guy & his son, who gave him a partial explanation. Is this correct? Did he ever find out how much time had passed between him going into the hospital and him leaving?

thanks

1. It could not have been long.

He would have dehydrated an died without constant attention. I could be that the hospital was one of the last places to be abandoned. The makeshift morgue suggests that.

2. That is true
of course, maybe the zombie apocalypse started right after he got in there, and then the doctors, nurses & other hospital staff finally abandoned their posts when the hospital was being overrun several weeks later.

3. IIRC, he came across the zombie girl while looking for gasoline
but before he found the horse at the abandoned farm. That's my best guess.

8. Suggestion for those being pestered by zombies.
Only head shots count, so there is no point going for huge stopping power. A reasonable accurate .22 is all you need. I suggest the Ruger semi-auto model because it has those magazines where each tiny round has its own parking space. They are light, easy to shoot and quieter than a magnum revolver, especially in enclosed places like tanks. Plus, you can carry far more .22 ammunition than .357. So, use the .22 for pest control and keep that Colt Python to use as a boat anchor. Also, instead of filling a bag with shotguns, just take one or maybe one and a spare and fill the bag with shells.

When scrounging for gasoline, bring a sturdy scratch awl. Cars have gas in their tanks and a quick hole in the bottom is easier than trying to siphon it out.

If there are many zombies in the 'burbs, it only stands to reason that there are many, many more in the city.

Finally, every time you move it should be to find your next source of safe water and shelter primarily and food secondarily. Don't worry about choosing a leader. One will simply emerge from your group.

15. Probably not. Maybe he figured it was localized.
His reaction to the little girl tends to support that view. If he expected to find operating gas pumps, he probably expected to find functioning utilities too since they are electric pumps. The gas can probably just happened to be in the cop car as part of its usual stuff. Most town governments have their own gas pumps for town vehicles. It probably did not occur to him to use that to fill the car's tank and more cans. Of course, that presupposes that the electricity available at the police station also available at where ever the town gas pump was. Come to think of it, the generator for the cop station has to run on something. Maybe it was diesel.

I could rock and roll from a window for weeks.

Which reminds me I need to buy a few more magazines for mine.

My shilen barrel loves eley EPS black, and anything else in the 930-956 range.

I like my AR's but they're loud...

16. I have the Deluxe Sporter with a factory barrel.
It prefers high velocity, copper coated, especially when it gets hot. I haven't shot it in a long time. I usually shoot a CZ 453 with set trigger, heavy barrel and 40mm scope at the 100 yard range.

18. You and I think alike.
I was shocked when the father started picking off zombies with what looked like a 30-06, especially if they were looking to reduce the amount of noise they were making. A .22 would seem to be almost the perfect weapon. Hardly any recoil, very little noise, abundant and light weight ammo. I'd also probably have something like a Samurai sword for when ammo gets low. The Walking Dead zombies seem to be able to take an awful lot of blunt force trauma to the head, decapitation seems to be the way to go.

24. rewatched a bit last night
it looks like the beginning was current, and then there was the flashback to him getting shot. However, what I didn't notice at first was it was Rick Grimes' wife and son that were with the other sheriff in the "survivor's" location outside of Atlanta. That should be interesting when they meet up in a future episode.

25. They telegraphed Grimes's wife being wife his partner with the drawn-out 'guy talk'
My husband said no guys ever talk like that. I said they would if one is banging the other one's wife and is trying to feel out how much he knows. NAILED IT!

I had to explain the child-zombie was encountered on his quest for gas and not repeated in the later narrative (probably before he got to the farmhouse).
