so what positive happened in your life lately?

Me? Seems like I started dating again after 3 years of silence in that departement.

Disclaimer: I'm happily married and that wasn't in any way intended as a hit. But that is a damn nice picture and you are cute. Good luck with the new relationship!

Disclosure: The "useless without pics" line was just because that's a DU standard.

4. Started dating again? That IS exciting!
Good luck in the dating department. I transplanted some rosemary yesterday and so far so good. The mid-election power shift actually helps Mr Gut's business. I made some new friends while traveling recently and am thoroughly enjoying our email exchanges. Again, good luck with your new interest, that sounds so lovely, you deserve it.

YES! I just love rosemary and the way it smells, my hands smelled so good after the transplant, I didn't want to wash them, even though they were also covered in dirt. Here are a couple pics from my Asia trip.

6. My eldest daughter called from college to consult me on dealing with a friend who started heroin.
It's a royally fucked up situation and she's stuck in the middle of it - boyfriend who is his ex-roommate, friend who is his ex-girlfriend, friend the guy is hitting on (and she's clueless but talks without thinking), and a bunch of other friends who hate the guy.

THE POSITIVE: She called ME (and by extension my wife) to ask for advice on handling the situation. It wasn't an easy conversation because I didn't want to sound like I was preaching (and I was a heavy duty pot-head before she was born so I know what to avoid), but I think I gave her a foundation to work on. It was just cool that she would think I was the one to call for advice - she is 19, ya know.

The SECOND positive: The election returns suddenly didn't seem all that important.

12. Oh man, I don't envy her
I once had to deal with a co-worker who was an alcoholic. It was a very tough situation for me. I hope he found his way since then.

I wish your daughter strengh and hopefully she won't lose a friend.

14. She has a good group of friends - that's why they care. (Read on)
I advised her to talk to a counselor at the college for advice on what helplines and other services are available in the area. It is a small rural town and the college is the major reason it isn't a ghost town so there are probably services in the region. I also advised her not to get in the middle. I've known heroin users (although 3 decades past), and what is certain is that as the supply chain get higher, you aren't dealing with users - you're dealing with people who are packing heat. That's in the "not good" category. She's a second degree black belt but that's not going to do much good against four guys with semi-automatics.

She's a sensitive individual, perhaps due to how she was raised, and I know this is eating at her. If he falls into the abyss, there's nothing anyone could do to prevent that. Prison doesn't even solve that problem. On the plus side, he apparently only started using it about two weeks ago so there is still hope. He's in the "one beer gets me drunk" stage. It gets worse from there.

Sigh. I adore them and I am glad they're part of my life. But we have too many. I love them all very much; I love them individually, and give each one as much attention as I can (according to what they require). But their fights and litter boxes and feedings and barfage are A LOT for even two people to handle.

31. Actually, today was a very good day
I got into a little slo-mo bumpity in the supermarket parking lot (we backed into each other). Just scratches on both our bumpers (it'll buff out) and the other lady was so nice about it--didn't want to bother mucking about with insurance information or anything. PHEW.

Then late this afternoon I was slaving away raking the yard (LOTS of leaves, even though we don't have any trees on our lot--it's all from the neighbors' trees), and the neighbor behind us cleared the entire "wayback" (chunk of lawn past our second driveway that goes out to the sidestreet) for me in about 10 minutes with his leaf blower and his two rake-shovels. That would've taken me at least an extra hour (and extra blisters) to clear. So I am immensely grateful for that as well.

Congrats on the dating! :applause:

37. Hi MissHoneychurch!
Good luck on the dating thing, I hope it goes well for you.

I'm actually unhappy about a lot of things right now, but today my daughters made me laugh. Also, it's a little crazy how happy birds make me. This morning after I dropped my husband off at work, I was deep in depressing thoughts until I noticed that the beautiful little birds that show up each winter are back. I stopped to watch them for a while, and I felt better. Then later I watched the Myna birds and doves hanging out on my window sill where I place birdseed every morning, and they cheered me up, too. Three cheers for the birds!

Last weekend I saw for the first time in my life (I believe) a woodpecker. It was a wonderful sight. They became rare and it is good to see they are still around.
You get to see all the birds now that left Northern Europe.

Thank you for the compliment. I like it too.

Congrats to your new colleague. And good for you that you don't have to work two jobs anymore (I guess for the same pay).
