Three bits from my 9yo girl.
Bit 1:

I heard that second hand from Mom. She was watching a Madonna music video online and kid comes by.

Kid: Who's that?
Mom: Madonna. That song is from when Mom was a teenager.
(They watch a bit of the video)
Kid: Mom, Lady Gaga imitates Madonna WAY TOO MUCH!
(They watch a bit more)
Kid: I like Madonna better.

Bit 2:

With our permission, kid hosts a Halloween party for a handful of her school friends. We're blowing balloons. We come up with a way to tie 6 balloons together in this arrangement:

She loves the shape. I tell her it looks like a Xenon hexafluoride molecule. She is amazed by the name, asks what it is, I tell it's a substance I studied in high school chemistry.

She runs to Mom, shouting (with flawless pronunciation): MOM, LOOK! A XENON HEXAFLUORIDE MOLECULE! Mom makes a "WTF, are you two sharing hard drugs?" face.

Bit 3:

She is looking through my bookshelves and spots and old Algebra book.

Kid: "Dad, what's Algebra?"
Me: "It's representing unknown numbers with letters.* Example, a+4=7, a equals what?"
Kid: "Hum, three?"
Me: Yep. Congratulations, you solved your first algebraic equation.
Kid: "Why don't I study Algebra in school?"
Me: Probably you'll get there by fifth or sixth grade or so.
Kid: My Math is too easy. I want to go to a harder school.

Ain't she great?

* Yeah, I know algebra is much more than that, but hey, she's 9.

1. She does sound like a sharp cookie that's for sure
Nothing like a kid at her age already challenging herself! Congrats!

2. It's good to encourage her to learn new things
That will take her a long way in life.

I have a little neice who is 8 now. When she was 3 I remember her making up stories. Not lies (but she can do that, too) :), but stories like you would tell around a camp fire, or like you might read in some of my threads. I remember one of them was a scary story about The Ghost Bunny. It was very creative and funny to hear her tell it.

After she told us one such story one day I told her mom, my sister, to encourage her when she started to write, because I could see it coming. When she was 7 she had her first work published in a book of poems written by kids. I was very proud of her and her parents.

3. I think I'll grab a math book two grades ahead and ask if she wants to take a shot at it.
And then maybe some chemistry. She showed interest in chemistry at that XeF6 balloon thing.

5. Does your username come from a Doom Patrol comic?
And did I already ask you this question previously?

6. It comes from a song called "Driver 8" by the band, REM.
Where they got it, I have no idea!
