A visit to a "gearhead rescue center" ( dial up warning)

These pics are from a place about 20 min drive from my house. The guy that has these for sale was running a truck through the rural countryside buying up cars to take to the crusher for recycle.

Unlike many of the guys that do that, he didn't have the heart to send these classic pieces to their doom. I just thought the gearheads and classic car lovers here might enjoy seeing them.

1955 chevy 3200 pickup, very restorable 





1964 Mercury Comet v8. My wife likes this one, wants it painted candy apple red with cragar ss mags

1959? Thunderbird . The sheet metal on this one is really excellent. Rare to find one not rusted out somewhere

1956? Chevy suburban. This thing is just way too cool

1. That Suburban could be really hot.

It's a '55 or '56 with that grill, definitely. The mirrors are wrong for both years, though. Haven't seen those before.

And I love that Dodge pickup. That glass is going to be expensive to replace, but she would make a great cruiser done up right.

2. I think I found a home for it

I took a guy that works with me out there today and he flipped over the suburban. It's really complete, has a 283 or 327 in it. I'm trying to help find homes for all of them, I cry every time I see a trailer load of vintage iron all smashed and heading for the furnace :cry:

5. It's a really odd "collection" too.

Lots of vintage rides coupled in with pseudo-late model...well, crap. At least from the pics.

He saved pickups, which makes sense in Oklahoma since trucks are popular here. I guess he thought he could turn a buck off of them, can't blame him for that.

It was somebody's rod back in the day, it's got a hurst floor shift, bucket seats, custom wheel. I think it and the 55 pickup might go as a package deal.

They do burn a lot of gas and pollute do much into the air. Maybe put them all in a museum but we cant let them run again. It would really hurt mother earth.

They are part of our history. It's not like they would get driven every day, at least I know I'm not going to drive my '65 chevy truck every day when I finish it. As few. As there are left I think their footprint would be negligible in the grand scheme of things.

Very sweet and very restorable. It's got a 260 or 289 if the engine in it is original. My wife really perked up when she saw it. But knowing her, she will want me to put a 427fe side oiler and a c6 with a shift kit in it. She's a maniac when it comes to wanting to burn rubber! :rofl:

A 70 or 71 t-bird, super clean body



And, if all goes well and I can raise a few coins, this one is going home with me. It's a 60 or 61 chevy c10 shortbed. I can mix and match parts with my '65 until I get a hell of a truck built from the two. :D

There is a mint of money in parts there. I used to have a 64 T-bird and still have the 65 parts car.....recently sold the chrome grill for $600 and the trunk lid for $250.

selling that car. It was awesome but.....I had another project in the works (76 Porsche 911} and the old bird had been relegated to storage. The guy who purchased it still drives it.......eggshell white with light blue leather interior. I always loved the dash in that car at night - looked light a futuristic space ship. The 390 wasn't anything to sneeze at either...old car would scat!

There are a few I really regret letting go. My '63 Ford pickup, my '70 Barracuda, '63 Plymouth Fury, '67 Galaxie. Damn, If I had any of them back now I'd be happy...

24. It caught my eye right off

All it is missing body wise is the front fender on the driver's side and those can be had for not a lot of money. The rest of the body is really straight. It would make a nice car to restore or resto-mod.
