Tip you Hotel Housekeeper.
Seriously, they do more than waitresses.

Not for love—or money
I didn't know maids received tips, so it took me weeks to realize that the coins left in rooms were an intentional gift. My tips were paltry: I almost never received more than $1, and at times guests left religious pamphlets.

1. We always tip the housekeeper. It is very important.
Mrs. V. says, "they don't do this because they love it."

A book recommendation for everyone: Nickel and Dimed - On (Not) Getting By in America, by Barbara Ehrenreich. Although in googling the book to see how her name is spelled, I just found a 1 of 5 stars review on Amazon - pay no attention to that. A great read. An awakening, really.

7. I read Nickle and Dimed, very eye opening.
I tip because I appreciate what they do, and because of them, I get a break. I could not believe that rating on Amazon, so I went to dispute it and found the book is actually rated around three and one half stars, so not everyone scored it so low. Ehrenreich did us such a service with her imposed poverty.

2. I always leave a couple of dollars at least.
Sometimes it is my last couple of dollars. I also occasionally leave chocolate or a nice pair of earrings with the $. I am a jewelry rep so that part is easy for me. :-)

3. I do generously tip the housekeeping staff when I travel, but I don't know that they do more than
waitresses, whom I also tip well for good service. Here, gratuities are included in the final check, but I never trust policies like that because I don't know how many people the housekeeping staff or waitress has to split it with, so I try to leave something personal. For housekeeping staff, 10-15 percent of the total lodging cost left next to the TV with a fast "thank you" on the little pad of paper in room. That's how I do it, anyway. Don't know if it's correct or appropriate.

4. How Does That Work?
Do you just leave the money on the table? If you do, does the housekeeper who worked on your room get the money? Maybe there was a shift change? Does mgt allow them to take money from the room? I'm a little confused about that.

5. I have never had money taken which I had left out. As Yavin says, what
are we supposed to do?

9. I did that a little differently on my last trip
I got a $5 bill for each of the days I stayed and put one out every day with a biligual note: "Thank you, Housekeeping - muchisimas gracias."

I used to tip only when I left and realized only one housekeeper got tipped that way (I think so, anyway).

13. I typically put it on the pillow; it's always been taken from there
I used to put it on the desk or bureau, and there was only one time it wasn't taken - I made clear the next day that it was a tip, and came back to a pretty effusive thank you note (I guess it was a hotel where tipping wasn't often encountered)...

10. I had to Bing what that is.
I hope is says something about me that I didn't. :P

The act of defecating in the upper tank of the toilet. When the next poor unsuspecting person flushes the toilet they get a bowl of beef stew. the upper decker is a weapon of terror and should only be used on people who deserve it.
