Your favorite kid's movies from the 1980s?
And briefly, why?

My picks:

1.) Monster Squad ("it's the scary German guy! Aahhhhhh!")

2.) Adventures in Babysitting (Because I was about the same age as the little girl when this came out, and I had the same relationship with my big brother. Actually same goes for Monster Squad as well.)

There are a LOT more but, I'll let you guys go at it, if you care to join me in a little nostalgia.

oh yeah, why.
The characters were very contrived but the movie is pure fun and adventure. Plus, it had Chunk. Loved that kid.

5. My favorite character was Mikey (Sean Astin)
I love the innocence and goodness of this movie. I watched it recently and the end made me cry, it was so sweet.

2. Flight of the Navigator
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 05:39 PM by redqueen
oops - why: I like the actor, and the spaceship effects, and the story!

Labyrinth - what's not to like?! Bowie, muppets, songs, effects...

The one with the kids that make a spaceship out of a trashcan (I'm so bad at remembering movie titles!) - I like the campiness of this one

7. Anyone remember 3-2-1 Contact?
Anyone else find it vaguely disturbing? I was really young when I saw it, something about it upset me.

8. Um, you're not talking about the PBS show are you?
It's not scary, so you must mean something else.

I saw your subject line and immediately the theme song for The Bloodhound Gang popped into my head. :)

12. Bloodhound Gang...
That episode (weren't there only like four) where they were in the haunted house with the wheel chair was scary as hell.

Same with that episode of Real American Hero with the haunted house and the beast from another dimension.

14. Must be me
I was reading Poe and King at like 8 or 9, so maybe I just have a high tolerance for fear. :)

I had no idea there were so few episodes though... interesting. Don't remember the Real American Hero... now I'm curious!

16. Well, no, I think there is a movie with a similar title?
About a boy who contacts aliens, or something. Lot of strange special effects.

Tell me more about the show. Maybe this is what I am remembering.

17. It was a science show, IIRC
Targeted at older kids - maybe 9 to 13 or thereabouts (older than Zoom, anyway). They showed educational clips / skits. I liked it very much.

re: the movie your talking about, I don't remember it but that doesn't mean a lot (brain is going quick!)... will have to look for that.

18. Anyone remember a TV movie involving a "Sandman", a magic cloak,
a clock striking midnight, and some kids in a graveyard?

Please help me, I have been trying to find out what this was for YEARS.

I loved it, saw it a couple times, but can't remember any more about it.

Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 07:00 PM by NightTrain
Not only was it a funny, clever, well-written film that appealed both to kids and adults, its production techniques were nothing short of groundbreaking!

20. For some reason my dad thought
Weekend at Bernies was a great movie for a kid to watch.

I actually liked it! Though I was kind of disturbed by it.

However, my mom never forgave him!
