why do so many people wear pajamas in public these days?

I probably see ten people a day out in public in their flannel pajama bottoms. What's up with that? Sure, I can see how a high-school girl might go home from a slumber party in flannel PJ pants. But these are adults I'm seeing. In pink or turquoise or red printed sloppy flannels. In stores. On the city bus.

I watch folks slouch around in pajama pants and hoodies (mostly girls in fuzzy clogs like slippers to complete the look), like they just fell out of bed and couldn't bother to clean up and/or get dressed, and all I can fixate on is the hems of their over-long flannel pants dragging through dirt and muddy puddles...and then imagining them crawling back into bed with all that gunk on 'em.

I refuse to even wear a t-shirt out in public. Hate the jeans and tennis shoes look.

Doesn't take long to look nice and no - I do not have tons of clothes or shoes. I'm female and a minimalist.

I do like to shop so I get rid of my stuff every season and start fresh - not tons of things. This year has been hard cuz summer doens't want to end here in s. texas and I have all these nice new sweaters,,,,,,wah

9. I was going to ask the same thing

I am glad you did. I wondered if it was an offspring of the grunge trend we had here in the NW 20 years ago, but since people from all over are seeing it, I guess not. From what I call tell, the bottoms need to be a print, plaid was the norm, but now anything clever goes....you know, pink sheep on a blue background or a lovely toile. Uggs also seem to accessorize the look, at least on the young women.

1. Lazy. Can't work up the energy to shed them and put on pants.

2. It's all the same anyway. PJs, sweat pants, lounge wear. It all looks the same anyway so why change?

I saw it at our high school and community college five or six years ago. I did not think our area was exactly trend setting. But it is just starting where you are? Wow.

20. This is pretty low on my list of things to care about.

The bits that are supposed to be covered are covered, I have a hard time caring if the material is denim or flannel. I have some flannel shirts, I guess I don't see why that's okay for the top half of a person but wildly offensive if it's used on the bottom half.

Decades ago I was in on the fad where men and women were wearing crazy patterned men's boxers as shorts. That was acceptable enough that we were on a running team for the army that wore them as our team "uniform."

Then people got all bent out of shape because teens were wearing their pants low enough that the a portion of their boxers were exposed. Never did understand why it was okay when we had the whole entire shorts exposed, but if a black teenager had a sliver of it showing, they had to start passing laws against it. Heck, they're still more covered up than runners in the 70's wearing those skimpy nylon shorts.

...socializing on the internet, broadcasting our deepest feelings or the most mundane details of our day, talking to hundreds of people at the same time while sitting half-naked in our bedrooms, watching couples in bed, having babies, sitting on the toilet on reality TV...stuff like that.

The line between public and private is fading.

That's my main reason anyway....Only happens if I need to make an early morning coffee run or something. The cashier at the convenience store doesn't even blink an eye at it
