A bit spiritual, and I know that support of the military is in many sectors, it is a really interesting concept.
To honor those that sacrifice and serve, without judgment, since they do it in their best thought of what is right, that is why soldiers on both sides of a battle field, and pacifist against the concepts of war can be honored. Because within their thoughts of what they think is best, many do their best. hence why I think the comment 'they know not what they do' was said, and why I think it is about education and trying to learn.
Although existence is not a war game, that is a flaw people fall into. The honoring of Veterans should have the caveat of not supporting the concept of wars, although in defense there is some justifications, really bullets and bombs is just going after cardboard cut outs, and doesn't really change anything.
There is a comment, soldiers dislike war the most, I find that interesting.
I should add, both that song, and the 187 clip had 'having everything taken from them' maybe that is a concept of you can't take it with you. I figure much of that stuff is spiritual. Sounds like a both education and saying someone is sorry.
"My world was shattered, my world torn apart. Someone took a knife and drove it deep in my heart, you walked out the door I swore I didn't care, I lost everything then and there." Seems to be a comment on emotional death, if not an actual story of mortal death.
Or a quote from a movie.
"Hell of a thing to kill a man, you take everything he has, and everything he ever will have." Not exactly true, but in the case of the material, it has been said many times.
