Is there any place you know of that would take used cameras???

DU doesn't have a camera group or at least I didn't find one, and I'm wondering if there is a place that I can recycle a Cannon sure shot "joy" , and a Pentax zoom 90 WR camera?? I've written to them booth and will wait for responses, but is there some place I could look for information?? Thank you.

1. Many high-end cmera stores will buy them...

because many high-end camera stores sell used cameras as well.

2. If it is broken, some places like Best Buy have drop-off for recycling (cell phones too).

If it isn't broken, go with the camera shop - just be sure to remove the memory card with the nude pictures on it. :evilgrin:

places like that, if the cameras are usable. Best Buy for recycling if they're not.

DU has a photography group - I'm pretty sure they use cameras. :)

4. 35mm cameras are heading into the sunset.

I recently bought a Minolta XD-11 SLR in a thrift store for $10.

It's difficult for me to pass up "deals" like this, which is why I have dozens of cameras.

Maybe somebody will invent electronic film for these cameras someday. Until then "develop only and make a CD" isn't too expensive.

6. Yeah, seems like you could put the electronics and sensor into something

the size of a film canister. Edit: with the sensor sticking out like the film leader I mean. Just have to work out how to control ISO, 'film advance' etc.

7. I can also imagine something like reusable film.

The film would be covered with photosensitive electronic bits that would be read and reset by an internal or external electronic scanner.

It would be much too complicated, I know, and probably as useless as a cassette tape in a world of mp3 music.

But I like my old cameras...

5. sell it on craigslist or ebay

People do still buy cameras. Or donate it to the Goodwill for their auction site.

I would buy a Canon AE1 if I saw one with lenses at a reasonable price.

11. Film cameras are not desirable to most people - I bought a complete

high quality big name 35mm set up - SLR camera, 3 lenses including a good zoom, flash unit and various filters and accessories for $35 on ebay last year.
I use it from time to time mainly for nostalgia. You would be lucky to get anything from a shop - try to sell it online somewhere, and good luck with that.
