A dear friend gave us Dylan tix for tonight. Haven't seen him live in years.

Any thoughts about the current tour? Is there more vocal clarity? ;) Is he doing a lot of old blues stuff?


We are taking our teen, too, I am curious to see what he will think. I told him you need to see Dylan at least once in your lifetime.

1. His band is excellent

He's doing great songs from throughout his career. I think you'll all enjoy it. Have fun!

were you, uh, able to understand the lyrics? :D I have not seen him since the born-again (Serve Somebody?) tour- and that was 25 plus years ago, if not 30. My friend who gave me tix then is actually taking us this time along with my 14 year old son!

3. Not especially

But in concert it's more the feel of the song than the lyrics. For me it didn't matter because I know all the lyrics. It's a great band line-up. Maybe not names you're familiar with, but very accomplished and especially sensitive to Bob's wonderful music. They've been playing with him a lot on this 'Never Ending Tour'. Have fun.

4. I saw him maybe 20 years ago when I was working at my local civic arena.

I could not understand many of the lyrics, but knew the tunes so I heard them in my head. Other than that it was a good concert.

What was funny is that Dylan wanted security out back by his bus because he was immediately leaving, but there were no fans back there at all if he thought he would be bothered.

8. in a way you really don't need to hear all the lyrics clearly since so many of

his tunes are well known. The mix was a bit muddy, but his voice strengthened and broadened out a bit more as the show went on. In a way I don't care since the playing is so, so good.



Yeah, the crowd was pretty polite. No one seemed to be rushing the stage. :D

5. I see Dylan every year.

Vocal clarity? No. But the fun of seeing him live is to try to ID each song as soon as you can. There are some who can do it after hearing the first note or two, but I can't do that.

The band is great and we have give all the credit for that to Bob, as their leader.

I'm sure you will enjoy the show and I hope your teen does as well.... please let us know how it goes.

I'm planning to see a show or two in the NY area.

9. I've only seen him twice- my friend who gave us tix has seen him 10-11 times

over the years. The musicianship was stellar- Charlie Sexton is great - haven't seen him play in a while, either. Nice when he and Dylan and the pedal steel player traded licks. I would think any sidemen would learn a great deal from him. Pedal steel guy also played banjo and there was some upright bass. The blues and rockabilly-ish tunes were really good, almost more fun to hear more obscure songs as opposed to the classics.

The drummer was great, too.

6. He played a local university last night

I didn't go (the tickets sold out in a blink), but here's the review--seems he did a few classics but mostly his later stuff.

10. it didn't seem to be sold out. I checked some of the reviews from the

last few weeks. I think he plays here (Pittsburgh) quite frequently and has played the Petersen events center (usually used for basketball games) a few times according to the friend who gave us some tix. Loved see him playing organ - nice back and forth with Charlie Sexton's guitar. Harp playing had a really cool jazz-like intonation.


Some familiar tunes - Jolene, Blind Willie McTell, opened with Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat (a favorite of mine) Like a Rolling Stone (encore), Ballad of a Thin Man, Tangled Up In Blue (with alternate phrasings), Highway 61 Revisited (great fun!), It's All Over Now Baby Blue, I'll be Your Baby Tonight, Just Like a Woman.

7. I thought the second half "The Carpenters: A Retrospective 90-Minute Medley" was rather flat.

When he finished his first set by taking requests from "Cats", I knew the evening was done.
