I have a request: Can you turn me on?

No, it's not what you think.

I will admit to being a music snob. I have been stuck in the '60's and early 70's, musically speaking. I don't want to step on any toes here, and realize everyone has their own musical tastes, for whatever reason. But, for the most part I have felt that the rock music scene died with the advent of disco. Then there was punk, then rap and hip hop, and then I don't know what. But I do not care for any of those genres of music.

It hasn't been until recently that I have begun to get excited about the music scene again. As a result, I am sure that I've missed a lot of really good music. I have come to like groups like Godsmack, a little Korn, some White Zombie, etc... and am trying to play catch up.

Can any of you fine DUers out there turn me on to some music that excites you?

1. Well, Bond is pretty cool. Enigma is older (early 90's) but also cool.
I'm not really up on the newer stuff because most of it sucks moose cock - sort of like Twisted Sister, but not even with the shred of talent they had.

2. uh, ok, if your stuck in the 60's and 70's then you cant really call yourself a music snob
but if your looking for modern music that you might like, there is plenty of stuff to try. If you like godsmack, then maybe try disturbed, drowning pool, seether, stone sour, fucking metallica. some people also like nickleback , creed, black label socity, and staind, but some people also like a punch in the ear.

there are many more.

but I do like drowning pool, seether, metallica and creed. I'll check out the names of some of the others.

Also, without my 60's bands, I doubt very much if you would have those bands you mentioned today.

5. there is nothign wrong with 60's and 70's music
i love it. But no music snob worth his title confines himself to one era or type for that matter. I do admit that i dislike country though.

11. I don't. I like some 50's music, a lot of 60's, 70's...
from buddy holly to the Airplane, Zeppelin. I guess music snobbery is in the eye of the beholder. Just as a lot of people like rap and hate everything else. I pretty much closed my ears after disco and the hair and spandex bands.

16. Tool.
I can't believe no one has mentioned them.

A Perfect Circle
Evans Blue (pre 2009)
Another nod to Lacuna Coil
Chevelle (Later than the Point #1 album)

Some bands I just discovered from Pandora and want to hear more of include Rise Against, Nightwish, and Blind Guardian.

But then, that's all on the alt. rock/metal divide...
