Anyways, I took the wrong bus home once (14th Street bus instead of the 16th).
It was a slight foggy night and the street scenes were fucking SURREAL - lots of
gold lame and leopard skin hot pants and microminiskirts. Riveting. Not tempting
in the least (these were some of the worst of the worst off -- though it was
before the crack epidemic).

One hilarious point when we were stopped for a red light (traffic, not business
red light). One of the johns had pulled to the curb and a patrol car had pulled
in behind him (but coincidentally -- the police seemed to have no interest in
HIM). The hooker was trying to (laughingly) discreetly get him to pull around
the corner with TINY movements of her hands and head -- anywhere NOT
directly in front of the police.

He was clueless. It was EXTREMELY funny... bless her mercenary and DETERMINED
li'l... um... heart.

7. I had a summer job in DC in '79. I had to take stuff to the post office at 14th and K.

That was a WEIRD fucking experience. I passed by two guys and overheard one say to the other, "man, he's cuter than she is". That sort of freaked me out - I was like 16 at the time.

DC's climate is actually pretty mild...its cooled/warmed by the ocean temps..Does it get hot in the summer? Yes. But the idea that the midwest is actually cooler in the summer is completely and utterly wrong, actually 2010 was a wacked out year here. Usually our climate is pretty moderate compared to the rest of the country...

the East (Philadelphia), and the Southwestest (San Antonio and Tucson).

Subjectively, at least, D.C. was the worst for heat AND humidity in the
summer.

Tucson gets hotter (up to 110 - 112), but the humidity is usually less
than 10% at those temps AND it cools down and dries out significantly
at nighttime. D.C. got hot and humid in the late Spring and seemed to
STAY hot and humid 24/7 until sometime in late September/early October.

There's a good reason why most politicians run - RUN, I tell you - back to
their constituents during the summer months. There's about 98/98/24/7
damn good reasons.

And my mom lived in Phoenix for a few years, when I've commented about the its not the heat its the humidity she says that the Arizona heat is like living in an oven..and thats just as bad in her mind...:)

neighborhoods where ALL the houses had swimming pools (though there seemed to always
be ONE that did not -- that would be the house I would buy and hope for kind neighbors
as I just hate maintenance).

I've felt as high as 112 and there was a slight-to-moderate breeze. That breeze DID feel
like I had just opened the oven door and leaned down to look inside.

I lived in Atlanta for a while (outskirts of Buckhead), but during the Fall/Winter. My GF there
let me know that they didn't see much snow. Once, at 3 AM or so, she woke me up about as
excited as I've ever seen her (well... ... ... ... you know). She DRAGGED me out of bed and
outside in my barefeet and underwear. It had snowed during the night and there was probably
1-2 inches on the ground.
