1. How could anyone
not have a "perfect day" among all that beauty which does appear to be Scotland. Beautiful voice.

4. Curiously, I've actually heard of Boyle but have no idea who the fuck Reed is and really don't care.
I'm a dick that way.

10. Not know Lou Reed?!?!?!?!? How about "Take a Walk on the Wild Side"?
.
.

.
.
From what I read, he nixed the idea as ridiculously trite and commercial,
but almost immediately regretted his decision -- and this was his sorta
make-up penance/offering... to direct her video. The portion I watched
WAS beautiful... but it's the first thing I've heard HER sing and while she
had an OK voice, there was nothing spectacular that I could hear (and
that choir seemed to be a necessary augmentation as opposed to the
backing support of the choir in the video below).
.
.
Below is my absolute FAVORITE version of "Perfect Day". That's Lou Reed
opening and closing the video. Some of these folks don't really belong
here. The line for Shane McGowan is PERFECT and it always takes me by
surprise and makes me laugh to see him in this.
.
Who is that woman with the Cleopatra/beehive hairdo with that fucking
PHENOMENAL voice (though Tom Jones gives her a run for her money)?
The eclectic mix of artists for this BBC "commercial" was inspired.
.
E-m-m-m-m-mylou Harris!! Yum-yum-yum-yum-yum.
.
And every time I see it, I'm reminded of Laurie Anderson -- I've been
listening to a lot of her stuff over the last few days. Weird, weird genius.

12. what I notice about her
is that she does not yell or do the power notes and it is a nice change. Really nice to listen to.

13. i'm sorry, the shift from sensual languor to epic diva fantasy grates on me.
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 06:32 AM by NuttyFluffers
i half expected Celine Dion to show up riding a cloud and shoot forth sunshine and glitter at Susan Boyle in some sort of prelude to an apocalyptic battle. cheesy as hell and an utter waste of a great song and a good vocal talent. granted, i cannot imagine Susan Boyle infusing any sort of sensual languor into her singing (in her singing she's pretty asexual; not a bad thing, just a thing to be noted). so really, i blame the producers for directing her towards the wrong material.

now if you want to know what i'd do with her? i'd regather the talented members of Cocteau Twins and throw her in for an album. Susan Boyle's voice would lend a strong foundational voice to their etheric ensemble. it'd definitely be something wilder than shuffling her around doing Ballad Standards, Soundtracks, and Diva-esque Covers of songs...

... or (if i was really jaded and calculating) i'd make her do Broadway numbers with a drum machine backup. throw it at the London dance clubs and watch the bucks roll in, a la Ethel Merman's disco album.

17. oooo that's interesting
haven't thought of the Cocteau Twins in so long....that would be really cool.
or again, like you suggested- maybe a little kind of Shirley Bassey "History Repeating" action...

18. She has a lovely natural voice
but that arrangement, with all those swelling violins and shit, is just heinous. Pure treacle. They've turned her into a pop-diva like Celine Dion.
