Tomorrow would have been my Mother's birthday and is Veterans Day.
My Mother was a WWII vet.

I will be flying her flag tomorrow, the one I received at her funeral service.

I haven't flown the flag since Bush was President.

So many WWII vets are gone and will be gone in a few years.

Thanks guys for what y'all did back then.

1. My dear texanwitch!
I think it's great that you're honoring your Mom tomorrow...

It's also my middle grandson's 3rd birthday...

I too will be flying my flag. My dad served in WWII and my brother in VietNam.

I hope my grandson will never have to fight in a war.

2. Mom would have been 88 this year.
I am a vet also but never saw combat.

Happy Birthday to your grandson.

3. Tomorrow will be a good day to remember!
Was she a WAC, WAF, or WAV?

I am a lady vet, and I find stories of those who paved the way very interesting.

I honor your Mom!

4. My Mom was a WAV.
Women serving back then were not always treated so nice.

They did pave the way, I had it better when I served.

5. Thank you and God bless us everyone.
The WWII vets will always have a special place in my heart. My Dad was a veteran rifleman in France and Germany. God bless your Mom for her service in WWII. I miss my Mom and always think of her.

6. My Father was also in the Navy, never left the country.
He was injured during training, but he worked in a Naval Hospital instead.

My Mother has a female cousin who was a Army nurse, served in combat areas.

She had two purple hearts, she was wounded twice when their hospital tents were attacked.

My Grandmother said that seeing so many wounded changed her so much.

That generation is leaving us, my parents were amoung the youngest age group.

7. My dad died on Veterans's Day in 2000. He considered his time in
WW2 his proudest time (other than raising his family). During the war mom taught school, worked in a GE plant and served as an enemy aircraft early warning identifier. What a generation!

8. It's an important day
So many of our generation know first-hand those who served in WWII, and our kids' generation, in wars now.

I'm a vet too, my mom, dad, brother, so many relatives. I find it odd that the day sometimes seems to be more about mattress sales and discount days at the grocery than about the actual vets.

Thanks for flying her flag. It's a great tribute, texanwitch.
