1. Dear Mr. Rekers:

My children's sexual identities are just fine, thank you. Unfortunately for you, I didn't need your book or the good book to "shape" them. At the risk of oversimplifying the issue, I believe sexual identities seem to work out pretty well for those who are loved, encouraged and appreciated as they grow up. My children have always known that my love for them and my pride in them has nothing at all to do with their sexual identity and/or orientation. Why would it?

If you believe it is a parent's job to stuff a child's soul into some set of rigid religious expectations, so be it. But I would caution you that, at least in some cases, you will wind up with people who deny their true selves and wind up living a life of conflict, contradiction and low self esteem. Some of these people will even end up leading secret "double lives" to accommodate both their sexuality and those forced expectations.

Can you even imagine such an outcome?
