My poor Bubby-cat has only 2 hours left with us

He's been hospitalized since Monday, and has been diagnosed with cardio-myopathy. The vet cannot get him to eat on his own or to really even stabilize him.. His chest-fluid was tapped & he's breathing better, but the prognosis is bad. We cannot care for him at home & it's cruel to let him linger.

At 3, I will go to the clinic and hold him while the vet helps him leave us.

RIP Bubby 3-23-03/11-11-10

7 days old

8. I'm sorry. He's a beautiful boy.
I lost my sweetheart A.C. to cardiomyopathy years ago, so I understand a bit of what you're going through. I wish Bubby a peaceful and comfortable passage to the Otherworld and peace and comfort to all who love him. My current "personal cat" (out of our three) is named Bubba, but I often call him Bubby. He has adopted me as his human.

I held him & he purred and then he was gone. Even though he had lost so much weight, it was remarkable how much he still weighed when I carried him out. In about 3 months he went from 24.7 to a little more than 14 (and he was skin & bones at 14:(..)

I have been working all day on digging a grave for him in the side yard.. Our concreto-dirt is wearing me out.. I keep flooding the area...dig a little..then rest..then repeat..

Here's hoping I finish before dark:)

and I did boost our local economy by $596.50

Beautiful guy, that first pic is adorable. One of my Norwegian Forest Cats has cardiomyopathy, it's fairly common in the breed and she's on meds every day to control it, and gets echos twice a year to check progress. We found it by accident when she was 2, now she's 10 and the disease is under control but I know it can turn south very quickly, and I try to be prepared, but we never really are, are we?

Big hugs. It hurts, and I'm glad your Bubby-cat had a good time and life with you. He was so very clearly loved, and he loved well in return. Take care.

26. I'm so so sorry.
My dear Keiko has cardiomyopathy and nearly died two years ago. The tap brought him 'round and he has functioned better than anyone thought on a daily regimen of diuretic and coQ10. Every day is a gift, but I will be where you are not too much time from now. I'm so sorry.

Incidentally, I have buried two beloved cats in big whiskey barrel planters and planted beautiful flowers overhead. I did it because I knew we would be moving a few more times and I didn't want to leave dear kitties behind. The circle of life is visible in the flowers and herbs each year.

Thanks for showing the photos of your furbaby. My condolences.

27. If it had been the one thing, we might have made it, but
in his case, the meds for the C-M, interfered with the insulin (he was also diabetic), and he had lost so much weight so suddenly, that he had no appetite and was so weakened. He also had a potassium problem. I think we might have been able to bring him home & syringe-feed him like we did with Willie last year, but the blood chemistry-balancing-act was something we could not have handled, and I did not want him to suffer:(

I know he's out of pain & suffering, but every time I find a foam golf ball that he batted under something, I will be sad.. He was a world-class ball player.. If we threw it too low, he would reach out and grab it:)

I know what losing a pet is like, and I know that it's a difficult thing to get over. Tell Bubby that we're all wishing him a safe journey to the other side, and to look up the ones we've lost while he's up there.

It makes it a bit easier to bear.. We did manage to finally get that grave dug, and placed him next to Mommie Cat's grave (she died a few months back at 17 yrs old) . The thing that made it harder this time around was that he truly was MY baby.. I was the one who pulled him from the birth sac and who cut his cord & helped him take his first breath, bottle-fed him (and his 4 siblings), and mine was the first face he probably saw when his eyes opened...

To die at only 7 yrs old was a shocking thing for me.. Our pets usually die of extreme old age.

I will still have the guilt over what I should have done, could have done , or might have noticed sooner, but in the end, he had a good life..even if it was a shorter one than we would have wanted for him..

Thanks again to you all :loveya:

42. My cat died the same way from cardiomyopathy - my sincerest condolences for your loss
I still regret I didn't act sooner - it took me almost a day to realize what was going on. She spent a day and a half in kitty intensive care - if I had known I could not save her I would have had them put her to sleep when I first brought her in so she would not have had to go through the trauma of the hospital.

I suspect life is not life without those thoughts of regret. I am glad he had a good life with you!
