I know Halloween's over, but I have a question about werewolves.

The hapless human turns into the werewolf when the moon is full, right?

So...does he turn when it gets dark on the night of the full moon, or when it rises to a certain point in the sky, or when he sees it, or something else?

And when he turns back into a human, is it when dawn comes, or when?

1. Usually, if the sun is up I don't have to worry.
I mean, if I can see the full moon in the daytime sky I do tend to be more aggressive. But it is only when the full moon is the brightest object in the night sky that you have to worry.

2. The moon has to be full in the night sky...
So essentially, not halfway up the horizon, or a day moon, High in the night sky and clear. Not obstructed by clouds....

Werewolves change back during nap time in the early hours. Usually between 4-6A.M. but they always change back before the sun even thinks about coming up. This nap time is critical for a couple hours as bone structures take longer to normalize to human form. (Human bone structure is weaker than when it is converted to werewolve bone structure, something that is still being studied.)

Anything else just let me know!

3. Werewolves are a thing of the the past. That's what "were" means. Worry about arewolves instead

4. Folklore werewolves or Hollywood werewolves?
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 09:51 AM by CBGLuthier
Author Curt Siodmak made up most of what is now established "lore" for the classic film The Wolfman.

Silver bullets, full moon, wolfbane. All Hollywood invention.

Classic legendary werewolves could do it at will and usually had more control and did not see it as a curse.

5. think about how the sky looks when the moon is full and you'll see the answer to yr question
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 12:35 PM by pitohui
at the time of the full moon, the full moon is rising as the sun is setting, it travels across the sky the entire night, and then the moon is setting as the sun is rising the next morning

therefore the full moon does go approximately from twilight until dawn -- the entire night of the full moon -- the full moon never rises "late" at night and continue well into the morning, there is no "full" moon possible at say high noon -- forget the wolf for a minute and just think about the astronomy

therefore it's a pretty good guess that the werewolf does indeed turn at twilight and turn back at dawn (following the rising and setting of the full moon)

9. Personally...
I don't bother with full moons anymore. Everyone is out looking for otherkin on full moons and that gets annoying. I have heard rumors though that some kinds of repukes use the full moon as a signal to go find children to eat. Of course, that is only a rumor.

10. They turn into a werewolf when the full moon rises.
Edited on Fri Nov-12-10 10:44 PM by Lucian
And if the moon gets covered by clouds, then, according to some lore, they turn back into a human.

It is my understanding that when the night is over, the werewolf turns back into a human because the full moon should set when the sun comes out.
