Friday night music - Stones, "Time Waits For No One" amazing guitar work

by Mick Taylor. One of my favorite tunes by anyone, from back when the Stones (with Taylor and Wyman) were at their best.
Really beautiful, floating guitar - I can't praise it enough.

Mick Taylor plays in bassist Bill Wyman's band, Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings from time to time, and on several of their CD's.

Have a great night.

1. I've always considered that to be one of the best guitar soloes,
ever. Along with the guitar solo in "Aqualung."

2. Yeah. They had a great sound before Taylor left.
I like a lot of what they did latter, but it was more produced and not as interesting. Jagger claimed he was bored of rock and roll and wanted to experiment, and a lot of what they did was interesting, but not as listenable long-term, if that makes sense.

"Exile on Main Street" and "It's Only Rock and Roll" were really different albums than what they did afterward. I know it's cliche to say Exile was a brilliant album, but as has been said, often cliches are cliches because they are true.

3. Read Mick Taylor's Wiki article - he had a lot of gripes with the Stones
not giving him credit for writing songs, and especially with Keith who regarded Taylor as a better technical player, which Richards could not abide. Taylor is a great musician, and plays on many albums with a very diverse group or other artists.

Personally, I think the new mix re-release of Exile On Main Street might be the best rock n roll album ever made by anybody...the sound and inventiveness of that music is amazing, some of it very jazzy, some straight blues.

4. Exile is also a great country album
Exile is in my top 2 of albums along with Radioheads' "OK Computer"

5. It is a great mix of styles - I called it a rock album because I don't know what else
to call it, but there are so many great tunes on it it is amazing.

6. Underpants, here's a Stones cover of a Hank Snow song they were doing in 1964...

"I'm Movin' On"...

They did a very hot version on Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, but this is around 5 years earlier, and also done live for a TV show in England...I was a junior in Catholic high school then, and playing in bar bands on the weekends...and a big big fan.
