Edited on Sat Nov-13-10 12:05 AM by mix
I understand the primal fear, but wonder if its even possible. Maybe the Truthbusters (?) can do an episode exploring the topic. Yours is not the first time I've heard someone say this. Freud's "Rat Man" comes to mind (disturbing if you have a rat phobia):

18. one of my favorite shows is 1000 ways to die
and they told a story of a guy who was running from police and hid then got stuck in drainage pipe or tunnel. Apparently he blocked the exit for a horde of rats and they chewed through him. That has made me shudder ever since.

(here in Florida) 4 times in my life.
1st time: A crab clamped on my toe.
2nd time: Jellyfish..small one...stung the shit out of me..painful as hell.
3rd time: a sand shark nipped my leg...(fucking thing!)
4th time: Another crap clamping....I swear, I think the first one told his friends I was an easy mark.

NO WAY is this dude EVER going in the ocean. :)

66. You shouldn't be afraid of sharks
There are plenty more other deadly more common critters out there in the ocean...Last time I went snorkeling I got a bit close to one of these fellas....

And yes, I did go back in the water afterwards, but it was awhile later and much farther away...;)

like rats..

I actually want to die by tiger. Bite to the neck. Choke out, bleed out, or broken neck.

(Privately, unknown to all, so the tiger can get off scot free. (in order to kill again!))

EDIT: 'course that invalidates eaten alive by the fact of being eaten dead.

So rats it is.

17. Sharks are most likely for me, considering that several of my core hobbies involve
acting like a sea lion, but I don't really fear it. Velociraptors, however - ever since that damn movie I'm convinced there's a pack of them lurking in the bushes... :scared:

(Also mountain lions - as unlikely as a shark, but I've watched my cats enough to know how much a puma attack would suck.)

there's an evil beast lurking behind that insipid grin, as any half-aware parent who's had a preschooler in the past 20 years could tell you. And no one connected to the show will say what happened to the cute little Asian kid with glasses.

And, it would be slow. Like getting gummed to death by Grannie.

Well, if Grannie was a Furry, that is.

20. In order:
Great White Shark, I surf, sea-kayak, and snorkel off the coast of southern California.

Grizzly Bear: I have and will again camp and hike in Grizzly country.

Cougar, and Black Bear: I regularly hike and camp in cougar and black bear country, though my cougar concerns are mainly when we have the kids with us.

Critters never stop me from my activities, but these thoughts often hover in the back of my mind.

who--while inebriated and unconscious--had an eel inserted in his hiney as a practical joke. The eel ate through his intestines and killed him in a couple of days.

Then there's the recent story of Charla Nash who almost died from a horrific attack by an adult chimpanzee.

38. I grew up in the mountains and on the beaches too, Santa Barbara...
I'd hear stories of lions every now and then...occasionally someone would get attacked on some SoCal trail, but the sea, if as an avid surfer at the time, always scared me more. The Pacific around SB county, particularly in the northern part near The Ranch and Jalama was always so inky black, you could only see maybe a foot beneath the surface. Then I was able to put it out of mind, not entirely, and surf, but now for some reason the thought is terrifying here in NM.

The proprietor of the Inn told us if we saw one to just make some loud noises and it would go away. (it was a young male) I have to say I didn't like seeing a large animal like that close by. How strange to talk about bears in the same way people talk about other common animals.

I fear humans more than all the rest of the animals! lol I suppose if an animal ever manages to eat me then they deserve the NOMS.

Death by shark does seem horrific }( but then I think the salt water would help some. Maybe Death By Rhinoceros would be the worst. or death by ants.
