5 Sunday questions
of course, they can be answered after today..

1. Do you have a pet? List at least a fact about your pet/pets if you do.

2. Have you ever thought you would dislike an album only to like it when you heard it?

3. If anything, what will you be asking for for the holidays?

4. Where, besides DU, do you look for news the most?

5. What Chinese meal is your favorite?

My answers:

1. Yes, I have a dog. His name his Gordon, he's a Goldendoodle (cross between a Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle), he's 2 1/2 years old, he's 10+/10 with people (sometimes TOO enthusiastic as he jumps up and can play-nip,) 9.5/10 with dogs (he will bark/growl if they act too dominating), is a good watchdog but bad guard dog as you know from the previous rating, is very intelligent but naive, loves scratches and going on lap but no face kisses, doesn't do a lot of retrieving but will do indoor fetches for treats and a few outdoor fetches if it's cold, can be funny, is very lovable, etc.

2. Never thought I'd say it, but the Lee Dewyze album actually sounds pretty good from the samples

3. The Democrats standing up to the Repukes along with peace and our economy getting better, CDs from Crystal Bowersox, Duffy, and Belle & Sebastian, a new iPod classic, maybe an Amazon Kindle, scratch-off lottery tickets, John Grisham's The Confession, and a calendar

4. I guess Huffington Post, though I take some of it with a grain of salt. DU is my main source by far. I check the Verizon and Yahoo news pages while surfing. Sometimes MSNBC.

5. Chicken & Vegetables along with white rice and pork egg roll

2. 1. Yes, we have two dogs. One is timid and the other is a hound.
2. I have liked albums much more than I expected, one of them being the White Stripes "Get Behind Me, Satan."

3. I never ask for anything. My family usually gets each other books and clothes, all of which I'm happy with.

4. Honestly? Facebook. My friends are newshounds and I can tell from their chatter what's going on.

5. All Asian food tastes the same to me. I usually get broccoli beef if I have to pick something.

3. Sure.
1. Four of 'em. Two dogs, a cat and a parrot. They have an entire social circle that is interesting and fun to watch.

2. Opera. It was a late-life revelation but La Traviata knocked me on my ass and I now have several operas on CD.

3. I probably won't get it but I want that Mini Cooper, dammit.

4. HuffPo, though with a jaundiced eye.

5. I love many, but judge a place by their Hot and Sour Soup.

2) No.
3) Peace on earth. (too corny?)
4) I hate to say it but HuffPo (if another huffpo-esque site exists, without the tabloid flare, please let me know)
5) Kung Pow chicken!

1) pets - oh yeah, 3 dogs, 2 cats, a macaw, horses, cows - the dogs are all mutts, one is really old, one is a big-foot dumb ugly SOB and the newest is from Mexico. One cat is an old female - runt of her litter and the other is a yellow fuzzy longhaired barn cat - WTF? the macaw is an obnoxious asshole, several old horses that are nothing but pets and a couple cows raised from orphans on bottles - one is penned right now with what is probably a broken leg. I think she may have been hit by a car. We thought at first it was a snake bite, but not getting any better so now I'm thinking it must be broken. Not sure what I'm goi ng to do with her. :-(

2) oh sure lots of times - hell going way back to when Dark Side of the Moon came out

3) tires, insurance for 6 months on vehicle, or some other repairs paid for

4) local newspapers but not really, DU is pretty much it

5) meal? I like the way they used to serve a variety of dishes on a lazy Susan and everybody at the table could sample everything. I also liked soups before they figured out how cornstarch could impress gullible gringos into thinking something was rich since it was thick :puke:

7. Woot!
1. Do you have a pet? List at least a fact about your pet/pets if you do.

Two dogs. One is a Dachshund and a great bed-warmer. The other is a comical Akita that makes me smile a lot.

2. Have you ever thought you would dislike an album only to like it when you heard it?

I can't remember buying an album that I didn't already really want.

3. If anything, what will you be asking for for the holidays?

I think I'll buy myself a police scanner. If I have enough after buying other's gifts ;)

4. Where, besides DU, do you look for news the most?

I listen to NPR at the top of an hour usually. If I want to watch video I do CNN because it is easy to just open the page and watch. (no TV)

5. What Chinese meal is your favorite?

No clue. There are no Chinese resturants here and when I lived elsewhere I'd choose Greek over Chinese :)

10. I loved it all
From appetizers to dessert. Oh! Don't forget the soup. I never considered soup food until I had it at a Greek Restaurant :9:9

Make an evening of it. Thats what we'd do. Hehe, I couldn't pronounce the stuff, so I'd ask forty-eleven questions as I ordered. In hindsight, I wish I'd have paid better attention. I could make some yummys at home.

1. No. I'm not allowed to have pets in this condo complex.

2. Just about every post-Zwan SP album. I mean Corgan and Jimmy without James or d'Arcy? How good can it be? (Pretty friggin good. Different, but good. I still wish they'd reconcile; the feud between Billy Corgan's ego and James Iha's are not bigger or more important than the music of one of the seminal bands of the 1990's. How good could the Pumpkins have been if they didn't all go ballistic ego insane? I think they'd likely be considered the defining iconic band of the past 20 years.)

3. Nothing. We have a family compact to not exchange gifts. I generally only buy one or two gifts for people I know who I don't think will receive anything otherwise.

4. I read the NY Times at work daily.

5. General Tso's Tofu. (Deep-fried tofu with broccoli in a syrupy hot-pepper glaze over short-grain brown rice.)

12. Okay.
1. Do you have a pet? List at least a fact about your pet/pets if you do.
No. No pet.

2. Have you ever thought you would dislike an album only to like it when you heard it?
No. I only buy albums if I know I'll like them.

3. If anything, what will you be asking for for the holidays?
I don't usually ask for anything during the holidays. If there's something I want, I go out and buy it myself. There's one thing I want, but it's intangible and something I don't know if I should share here.

4. Where, besides DU, do you look for news the most?
MSNBC.com and my local newspaper website

5. What Chinese meal is your favorite?
The sesame chicken and fried rice at my local Chinese food place. :)

Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 05:08 PM by Iggo
1. Do you have a pet? List at least a fact about your pet/pets if you do.

No, I have a teenager.

2. Have you ever thought you would dislike an album only to like it when you heard it?

The BeeGees' Greatest Hits. Sometime sround the mid-80's they put it on the jukebox at my local beer bar. Now, I'd lived through the Disco years and I was fully on board with the Disco Sucks movement even before there was a movement. I didn't just think I was gonna hate it, I was dead certain. So anyway, the songs started coming on at random over the next month or so while I was busting pitchers and playing pool and throwing darts, and I was humming along and listening to the melodies and marveling at the vocal prowess of the Brothers Gibb. Eventually I was singing along at the top of my lungs (yeah, I'm that guy) and goddammit I realized I loved every one of them songs.

3. If anything, what will you be asking for for the holidays?

Nada. In my dreams, I'm brave enough to ask for a pass. In my dreams...lol.

4. Where, besides DU, do you look for news the most?

Raw Story.

5. What Chinese meal is your favorite?

Can't stand the stuff.

17. My answers...
1. My Boston Terrier, Gizmo, is now 10 yrs. old & is like having a toddler -- the living room floor looks like a daycare center, with his toys strewn everywhere. He plays the piano, gets his own towel when his feet need to be wiped, willfully speaks (fusses) when I don't move fast enough to give him a treat or go to bed.

2. Back in the days of record albums, I bought a Barry White album during a long shopping trip on a hot summer day, noticed it was warped after I unwrapped it at home, but actually loved the new sound...nah... just kidding; I threw it out & bought another one.

3. I'm getting a screened porch addition in the backyard. :)

4. Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, & Larry O'Donnell.

5. Moo Gai Pan .

19. Mr. froggy and I have
a brown poodle we named Ty, but we call him Gordie, which is short for Gordon Lightfoot. Gordie is a miniature poodle but when he runs after his squeaky toys we throw for him, he sounds like a a bison stampede. He's happy and very playful. He rarely barks and when he does, it's a single bark to get my attention so I'll throw toys for him.. He doesn't yap. He loves other animals regardless of what they are, and he's good with people too, including kids of all ages. He's a sweetie in every way. Sure glad this little brown foundling found us on that cold winter day two years ago.

The first time I heard a clip of Irish vocalist Dolores Keane's singing I thought she was awful, but after listening to complete songs from one of her albums, I soon realized she's wonderful! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQHxsZDkrPU

My holiday wish is for good weather so that our kids and their families can make it here for Christmas and have no trouble traveling home afterwards.

Besides DU, I check my Facebook newsfeeds every day to keep up with what's happening in politics.

My favorite Chinese dish is shrimp and snow peas on rice. Yum.

20. Sunday answers
1. Do you have a pet? List at least a fact about your pet/pets if you do.

I have 5 that are mine. 3 dogs, a cat and a rabbit. Since I talk about my dogs all the time, my cat Cleo, is absolutely fearless. I call her the "pit bull test kitty" because she gets to do the "is the pit bull cat aggressive test" with all the rescues. That dog even looks at her wrong, she'll give 'im a swat. And she's a terror to the raccoons that visit her food bowl.

2. Have you ever thought you would dislike an album only to like it when you heard it?

Oh, yes. My roomie wanted me to listen to a CD from Drive By Truckers. Totally not my style of music. Needless to say, today I love DBT (and Jason Isbell).

3. If anything, what will you be asking for for the holidays?

Winning Powerball numbers.

4. Where, besides DU, do you look for news the most?

Local news, Buzzflash.

5. What Chinese meal is your favorite?

Sweet and sour tofu.
