Caprica fans - good news - kind of...

New episodes of Caprica continue to air each week in November on the Space channel in Canada so - you know - they are on the intertubes if you know where to look... ;) I think they are up to episode 16 now.

Also if that's not your thing, the boxset of final episodes is due to be released on December 21, 2010. Season 1.5 in its entirety will be released on DVD. The pack will feature all remaining episodes, a video recap of Season 1, alongside both video interviews and podcasts from crew and cast members (including Eric Stoltz, Magda Apanowicz, Esai Morales and Sasha Roiz).

1. That is good news

While "Caprica" has its problems, it usually is a complex, adult series that avoids trite and true answers and storylines. It actually presumes its audience has some level of intelligence.

2. Syfy channel cancelled it a few weeks ago unfortunately and won't air any more this year

Yeah - guess it made the masses think too hard. So at least Canada is airing the final 6 episodes which had already been filmed and wrap up season 1 which turns out to be the only season. Doh. I'm sure the reason Syfy is putting out the DVD boxset before showing the episodes on their channel "sometime next year" is to get as much $$$ from fans as they can - even though they treated the show like shit hardly ever promoting it and waiting huge lengths of time between new episodes. Oh well least we'll get to finish seeing how Apothiosis/Resurection turns out by the finale. :)

3. Does anyone know if they are ever going to bother releasing the Blurays?

That is when I *KNEW* Syfy was determined to kill Caprica - when they absolutely inexplicably refused to release it on Bluray as well as DVD (unlike Stargate Universe and pretty much every single other major release nowadays), but yet based the survival of the show on DVD sales. They know good and well that nerds are more likely to own and care about things like HDTV and Blurays, and that a lot of them are going to hold off on buying the DVDs until the bluray is released. I think they did it to drive down sales deliberately so they could justify canning Caprica earlier.

So now I'm torn between getting the final episodes so I can watch them, or waiting for the (perhaps never forthcoming) Bluray. UGH.

5. I wouldn't wait for blu-ray - however...

Every episode (except for 14 through the finale so far) are available on the internet through itunes or torrents in HD-720p (6 chan surround for the ones gotten through torrents - not sure bout itunes). The show looks amazing in 720p so I'd go one of those routes rather than waiting a year or two til Syfy decides it's time to milk Caprica fans for more money.

As far as Syfy goes - latest I heard was they have no plans (right now) to release Caprica on blu-ray. Bah.

yeah you shouldn't have to install any codecs - the only thing i've ever had to install to watch any of these was the divx streaming player plugin which is fine - but yeah yay - glad I could help. :)
