1. Stupid people...
Seriously, first off you don't walk that close to a alligator at all. Second you don't let your pet near it either.

4. AND they let the kid sit there petting the cats
The gators have to be thinking they set up a buffet for them. Idiots.

2. I suppose if the gators had injured or eaten somebody there would have
been a hue and cry to kill the gators. People can be so ignorant sometimes.

3. You know what they say about curiosity and cats
that's one lucky cat and some damn stupid people. So they see the alligator still at the water's edge and they think it's ok now to approach? And they don't get the hell away when the second gator shows up? Those are some future Darwin award winners there.

5. Never been on a swamp tour, eh?
I'm not condoning it, and yes, if those gators get hungry they will be dangerous, just as bears who have been fed by humans will be acclimated and dangerous. But believe it or not there are a lot of places where gators are essentially farmed and kept as tourist attractions. Those gators weren't displaying any aggression (they raise up and hiss) and I expect they and the cats are used to one anothers' presence. Gators are actually pretty smart, and will attack for food and to protect their nests--the females actually take care of their little ones somewhat--but since they have all that armor their method of self preservation is to do just what they did, get the hell out of the way and stay in the water unless they feel safe enough to come out and sun.

People swim in the bayou rivers all the time, though if they're smart they know them well, know where the gators' territories are, and make a lot of noise

BUT, kids, do NOT try this at home! I wouldn't BET on coming back with all your limbs or your kittehs.

6. Just about to post this. Clearly (poster #1 ) these people are used to having gators around
Edited on Tue Nov-16-10 08:23 PM by underpants
the guy was standing closer to the gators than the cat was and he clearly was not worried. Still it was a cool video.
