I never heard anything more stupid that a school could do than this

My friend just told me that her daugher's ipod was stolen out of her locker.

Of course why she was taking it to school is beyond me but it was kept in her locked locker all day (she says she uses it on the bus and other things).

Here the school requires all students to keep their locker combination inside their school planners.

So if I see a kid with an ipod, all I have to do is get a glance inside of that person's school planner and get the combination from there.

I told my friend that she should tell the school that her daugher is putting a new lock on the locker and if the school needs access to it they can call her (the mom) for the combination.

Even the strictest private school I've ever seen doesn't do that.

My brother spent a year at Gunnery in western CT as a punishment for being a shithead in 7th grade (pot, drinking, skate punks, etc.) and they didn't even do that...they just had all the combinations recorded in files in the office using a double-blind system. One administrator had a list of students, lockers and an assigned #. Someone else had a list of the #s and combinations. The students and parents had to sign papers saying the school could access lockers with or without cause at their discretion.

12. Before using her own lock....

she needs to check to see if it is allowed. In our building, student-owned locks are cut off with bolt cutters.

Sorry... but them's the rules! The safest thing is to leave expensive items at home.
