1. Mom was a Mildred
with Gertrude as a middle name. She hated it. Who wouldn't? But Millie wasn't too bad for a nickname. Her mother's name was Gladys -- another bad one. My nephew called her 'Happy Bottom' (glad ass, get it?)

4. Connor
Nothing wrong with the name, but in retrospect it would have sounded dreadful with our surname. That and every kid I've met named Connor since has been a wee bit on the strange side.

I also dated a Connor who was odd. So you're absolutely right. :hi:

8. No offense taken . . .
. . . I have a cat named Mildred. ;)

Mrs. V. used to work with someone who had once visited the U.S. Capitol and was so moved by its beauty that she named her daughter Rotunda.

Rotunda.

9. Zuzu.
Well, not really. But I had my daughter convinced I almost named her that.

Working in phone related customer service over the years I've run into some weird names.
Most memorable was ThankyouJesus.

My best guess for that is that a worn out Mom finally had the son her husband wanted after 6 girls or something.

10. Bijoux.....it sounds too much like a stifled sneeze when pronounced
also I had the name Aja picked out...she would have spent her time having to tell people how to say her name.
I was into the cool different names, but all in all it ends up being harder on the kid because no one knows how to recognize and prounounce it on sight, and they spend their childhoods trying to correct people in pronunciation.

18. I love Bijoux.
I just added to the stock list of character names I keep on hand for writing, probably the closest I'll get to having kids.

It probably works best as a middle name though. Daisy Bijoux {generic last name.} Now I just need to convince my friend S, the only woman I've ever met who I'd consider settling down-with, to not only date me (she won't, says I'm a player.) but also to have my baby. (she won't, she's a professional dancer and it'd mean the end of her career.) :(

Nevertheless, it's an awesome name.

14. Allegra - which I still like but then an allergy med came out named Allegra
so I was glad we didn't choose that. :-)

I loved the name Alison but it did not go with my husband's last name which ends with an ON.

I do regret not naming my daughter Stella - I still love that name. It's tough when you have to compromise with the dad..LOL

16. aislynn.
I still LOVE that name...but I love the American bastardization of it. (Ays-lin). (Long A.)

Apparently it's "supposed" to be pronounced Ash-ling. I've found so many people bitching about incorrect pronunciations of Welsh/Irish/Scottish/Gaelic names. Figured I'd spare my daughter.

Her name is Jossalyn :)

17. Only the name my first child ended up with.
I went along with it, since it was the least objectionable names his father suggested. I didn't see the future, when alternate spellings and basic illiteracy had people calling him by the wrong name, and a female name at that, all the way into high school, when he shortened it and never used his full name again.

As a teacher, though, I can list some names I wouldn't mind seeing again. Some are ubiquitous, some are just beginning their climb into every family in the nation, with countless spellings to make them "unique:"

All spellings of:

Michaela
Breanna
Hailey
Madison
Kailey/Kaylynn/Kayla, etc..

Colten
Tanner

And an honorable mention to "Cadence," since I've received 3 birth announcements in the last 2 years for new Cadences.

Looking here http://www.babynamewizard.com/name-voyager#, she would have had a lot of company.

Still like the name though.

31. I've never had children but
I'm torn about my parents choice for my name. I like my name, but I was almost named Fidela after one of my Italian great-grandmothers who immigrated here, or Fredericka after my dad. I could have lived with any of those, I suppose.

Now there's nothing wrong with the name Justin, but in a stoned and drunken haze I decided to name my oldest sone Justin. Justin other (my last name). His mother said NO! Luckily. His name is Travis, he's healthy, happy and has a family of his own. He didn't name any kids Justin other either.
