Had one of those "snapping out of the edge of sleep" nightmares
You know how you're just...on...the...edge of sleep, and it's like someone pulls you by the back of the collar and yanks you awake?

In the dream I was driving down Curtner in San Jose, coming up to Bascom. As I approached the intersection, all of the lanes were filled with cars in every direction, stopped, and there were no lights. Everything was pitch black...no stars in the sky, no moon, none of the cars had their lights on, no lights in any of the surrounding businesses / apartments / etc. The only light was from my car...my headlights, my instrument panel. Everything had a "dead city" feel like the movie "28 Days Later."

I started looking around to see if there were any people in the cars and that's when I woke up, abruptly.

I guess it's less Freudian than a man rolling a donut uphill with a snake.

1. Ugh. I hate unsettling dreams like that.

I had one earlier which is why I'm now up for the day. Couldn't get back to sleep. Grr! Yours sounds more eerily reality based though when you consider the state of affairs these days... Everyone around you being w/out light or guidance... if indeed anyone else was 'there' at all. :scared: Do you live in a red area or are you otherwise surrounded by ignorant zombie-like beings in your personal life?

Sorry. My dream-interpreting skills need work- lol! My daughter was always very good at that sort of thing, but she's now grown and gone, living in NYC. I can't wait to see her next week. But I digress...

Well, whatever the meaning of the dream, I hope you can get back to sleep. I didn't bother to check where you are living but I'm pretty sure you're from out west somewhere, in which case you should try going back to sleep if you can. For me, it's morning I guess. Been there, done that. x(

5. It's a blue area, but...
...being "surrounded by ignorant zombie-like beings" in Silicon Valley is par for the course.

That's why George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" affected me so much, I guess. If you read interviews with him, he claims the movie is a parable for the Vietnam war. For me, it's a reflection of what life in Silicon Valley is like. Just as the zombies in the film walk up and start eating you without permission, because they're hungry and don't care and "permission" isn't in their vocabulary, this valley is overcrowded and rude. "Hungry" people will just walk up and start eating...metaphorically, of course, but that's what it feels like.

It was definitely reality-based, which is why I classified it as a "nightmare" rather than a "dream"...and your take on it ("Everyone around you being w/out light or guidance... if indeed anyone else was 'there' at all...") is spot-on.

2. When I was a kid I used to have dreams where I heard this sound of a lot of people yelling
and it grew louder and louder until I woke up in a panic...

Now and then I still start to drift off and it's not like a real sleep or dream, but I can feel something pulling me, downward, upward, I don't know, but I don't like it and I wake up in somewhat of a panic, usually after my body jerks to something in that dream, my body almost always jerks, like running down stairs and missing one. Makes no sense, does it?

3. Oh, dreams!
Sheesh. I still remember the ones I used to have when I was naked and running through crowds of people who were NOT naked.

And then I'd fall. Ugh, that falling feeling - but at least I woke up before I hit the ground or pavement.

Still, I was naked. :scared:
