Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1 **SPOILER THREAD***
I mean it. Here be spoilers. Let's talk about it if you've seen it.

Two things I just have to say:

(1) That animated sequence for the story of the Three Brothers was AWESOME!!! Why didn't the other movies incorporate things like this?!?

(2) You know it's a grim and dark flick when just about the warmest, happiest moment involves a Nick Cave song. (I was a little WTF at that. His voice is just so distinctive.)

1. I didn't like the last movie at all
but I enjoyed this one. I was a little upset that the movie didn't include the goodbye to the muggle family scene, since I thought it was really touching in the book. I was a little surprised at the Harry and Hermione kissing scene. That was quite a kiss.

2. Did I miss something?
I thought that was Ginny. I had to run out for a couple minutes to call someone and when I got back Ron was lambasting Harry and Hermione, saying "I saw you two the other day!" Did they kiss?

Anyway, my favorite parts were the comedy relief, which was extraordinarily well-written and quick. The animated sequence was hypnotic. Dobby's death was totally heartbreaking, but overall I think it may have been my least favorite film of the series. I thought back on it the day after I saw it and just thought that it was very big, very beautiful, very dark, well-acted, but I didn't see much in the way of substance. It wasn't a bad movie at all, but it just left me feeling a little empty.

It did nothing to squash my belief that they could have managed to combine Parts 1 and 2 into a kickass HP7.

5. It's in Ron's nightmare sequence
when he's under the influence of the locket just before he destroys it. The evil entity in the Horcrux taunts him with his fears--sends illusory spiders after him, and then shows him an image of fake Harry and fake Hermione telling him he's useless and then making out with each other (naked!!).

The scene actually is in the book.

6. See above.
It's part of Ron's nightmare sequence, when the evil entity in the locket is tormenting him with his worst fears. It shows him fake Harry and fake Hermione making out. The scene is in the book.

11. The movie scene must have been more memorable than the
book scene. For me, at least.

3. I liked it
but I do hope they put in more of the Snape/Lilly backstory, or the significance of his patronus & motivation to help defeat Voldemort is going to be lost.

7. God, I hope so too.
I really enjoyed this movie, but there's still plenty of room to fuck up in the second half. If they shortchange Snape's whole story, that will be really unforgivable to me.

12. Especially since they already screwed it up in OOTP
with the "Snape's Worst Memory" scene. :P

13. Required.
Info-dumps are death to storytelling, so they had to cover this one with beautiful animation. It worked.

I was reminded of the beginning of Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

15. Again?
That's what HP needs. Zombies! (Well, there were some in the last movie...)
