Michigan woman's cat back _ after 3 years roaming

SPRING LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — After three years on the lam, Terri Essex's cat is back.

Essex was out of town when her house sitter told her the cat named Harrison was missing from her Muskegon home. The Grand Haven Tribune reports that the cat was caught this month about 10 miles away in Ottawa County's Spring Lake Township and returned thanks to a microchip implanted in the pet.

Harrison also still had his collar on.

Essex says she always suspected that Harrison had found a way to survive. She says it sounds like he was just "free-roaming all this time."

Jill Bannink-Albrecht, the front office supervisor of Harbor Humane Society, says it was a "miracle" that the cat survived — especially since its front claws had been removed.
