91 year old Pete Seeger's latest song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNKnYnmOTTg

When we look and we can see things are not what they should be
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
When we look and see things that should not be
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Hopin' we'll all pull through, Hoping we'll all pull through,
Hopin' we'll all pull through
Me and you.

It's time to turn things around, trickle up not trickle down
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
It's time to turn things around, trickle up not trickle down
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Hopin' we'll all pull through, Hoping we'll all pull through,
Hopin' we'll all pull through
Me and you.

And when drill, baby, drill turns to spill, baby, spill
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Yes when drill, baby, drill turns to spill, baby, spill
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Hopin' we'll all pull through, Hoping we'll all pull through,
Hopin' we'll all pull through
Me and you.

Don't give up don't give in, workin' together we all can win
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Don't give up don't give in, workin' together we all can win
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Hopin' we'll all pull through, Hoping we'll all pull through,
Hopin' we'll all pull through
Me and you.

There's big problems to be solved, let's get everyone involved
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
There's big problems to be solved, let's get everyone involved
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Hopin' we'll all pull through, Hoping we'll all pull through,
Hopin' we'll all pull through
Me and you.

When we sing with younger folks, we can never give up hope
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
When we sing with younger folks, we can never give up hope
God's counting on me, God's counting on you
Hopin' we'll all pull through, Hoping we'll all pull through,
Hopin' we'll all pull through
Me and you.

3. He is.
I saw him last night at Port Jervis High school in New York. He was giving a benefit for a local family that was in a horrible car wreck.

He's bemused about getting old. After one verse of a song, he couldn't remember the second verse. so he said, "Well, here's the third verse."

2. He's such a good person!
Pete Seeger has been a favorite person of mine since the early '60s. My older brothers had record albums of the Weavers, and I liked their music, too. My oldest brother built a banjo and had Pete sign it, at the Newport Folk Festival. When I was in nursing school in the mid-70s, a friend and I went to a Hudson River clean-up celebration where he was singing outside.
I heard an interview with him on NPR not long ago, and the host read a letter written to Pete from a couple. I think I'll write to him and ask him about a song I heard the Weavers sing at a concert a long time ago- Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman, or Lee Hays (now I can't remember) sang it about a woman thinking about her farmer husband, and he thinking of her, as they did their chores. It was really a pretty song but I've never been able to find it. I think the refrain was 'Round about now"...

5. I was working for a lobbying group in D.C. and when Pete Seeger came in to visit us...
.

.
.
.
...it was one of the RARE days that I wasn't in the office at that hour of the day.

I can STILL feel the sharpness of that disappointment.

6. i know what you mean.
This event was thrown together pretty quickly, a few posters here and there, a blurb in the paper.

The damn thing was still sold out.
