NOW TO MY PROBLEM: (my Mom broker her leg in south carolina) Read the full story here
http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=472588149123My Mom's family is scattered across the south, but Mandy, my Mom's niece and a pediatrician, lives nearby. She took control and thank God for that. She got her in a good hospital, upgraded her surgeon, and took care of her. Mom is on Medicare and they will only pay up to a certain point. But she cannot put weight on it until after December 15. The day her Rehab hospital stay becomes unfunded. She is telling me that she is going to borrow the money from the relatives to extend her stay to the end of the month (Dec) but there is only so much of that you can afford.(especially when you have NO MONEY to pay back and are already getting money from them.) The relatives have made it clear that is the end of her time there. (can't blame them for that, they don't really know her that well and have two kids in a two story home).
When my Mom was in Sacramento she could only walk to the car once a day. Shopping would wipe her out. She is deaf. Almost impossible to talk to her over the phone. Almost at any time. I have caught her falling a couple of times in the past. So she was not all that well before she fell. Now, on the phone, she seem so out of it even when I do talk to her.
The relatives and my mom are under the impression that she will be returning home, to her teeny weeny one bedroom apartment around the first of the year. (Undoubtedly My Mom would much rather stay in South Carolina over the Holidays). How she is going to be able to do that is beyond me. I can't stay there and she will have no one to help her. This is not a "maybe she will be better" thing. SHE WILL BE WORSE THAN SHE WAS BEFORE. Now to move her I will need a board if I can move her at all. Not to mention how is she going to get on an airplane? Am i going to go there and deal with that all over again, with the new TSA Scanners? She is not going to be able to get on a regular seat on a plane, that much I can tell you.
The train? Imagine 5 days in a train where I cannot leave a lower compartment. And have to wait on my Mom hand and foot and make sure she can go to the bathroom. I will have to fetch her everything she needs, she cannot possibly make it ip to the dining, observation or snack cars due to the stairs.
Drive? One thing, the car we have won't make it. Four days, no music or anything while in the car. No weed either. Drive cross country and not stop to take photos? Now that doesn't seem like a good idea.
If she comes back, This totally screws me over. I came back from South Carolina with about 20 bucks. Keeping in mind that I have been her full time caregiver, and, except for the April to October period last year (where I got a whopping 9 hours a month) for two years. FOR NO MONEY. Since my Dad died, she has had a hip broken, a knee replacement that went badly and now this. When we got on IHHS the first time, it took so long for her to even agree to getting in the program, that I got no hours. (6 months of begging her to get on and 8 weeks from signup to appointment) 9 hours a month. But for the 6 months after her knee replacement, she was invalid. Completely. And for that I was not paid. I cooked, cleaned, shopped, washed, took out the garbage, cleaned the cat box all of that while she struggled to get up to go to the bathroom and go to bed. Her day was bed to chair and back again.

She un enrolled herself off the IHSS program and I moved in with a friend. She was okay for a while and I was still caring for her all the time. Way more than 9 hours a month however and now I was not getting paid..then she got worse much worse. She was very ill and decided I could not live away from her again.

If she comes back,
That leaves me nothing. For years with nothing. It takes at least 6 weeks (6 months for most cases) after she hits the ground in Sac for them to come out and interview you for IHSS (Aaaaahnolds favorite target, you know). They will not schedule an interview her until she is back in Sacramento, in her home. And you don't get paid until the interview and you are approved for so many hours a month. So that is 6 weeks no money at least, most likely 6 months. And how much better will she be by then? I will be 24-7 for a long time. For free. There is no retroactive pay, you start the day after the interview. And now I gotta take classes, whereas had we stayed in the program, I would not have had to reapply as a caregiver. Now I have to take the same classes I took a year ago, plus a bunch of others, most dealing with fraud. Not to mention that due to the time lapse I can't stay here anymore without a job.
