Happy Thanksgiving everyone
Enjoy the day. Enjoy your time with family and friend. Enjoy the dinner.

And think of me when you take a bite of that turkey or sweet potato casserole or pumkin pie as I am here in Germany, working both jobs today and not having anything that resembles a Thanksgiving dinner ;)

2. Thanks
but since I am German and we don't celebrate Thanksgiving I have to skip on that. Next chance to have a very delicious dinner is Christmas :)

I've been to the States and had a couple of Thanksgiving dinners, so I know what I miss out on.

9. Happy Thanksgiving Brewman
:hi:  :loveya:

It is quiet at the library but I am not sure I want quiet at the store. Time passes faster when I am busy there. I just don't want to be overly busy and I don't want a******s as customers.

10. Hopefully, no big crowds
here, I don't go near a supermarket on the day before Thanksgiving. Crowds, long lines, the risk of some items running out. Glad I got the last minute stuff on Tuesday.

12. Thank you clyrc
will you serve a tradtional Thanksgiving dinner or will it be influenced by the Middle East?

21. My holiday meals are as traditional as I can make them
If I could resist eating "traditional sushi" in Hawaii, I can resist eating hummus with my turkey. :) I love the traditional food so much, I pretty much don't experiment with a good thing. Although I did add pomegranate juice to the traditional punch my mom makes, so I guess you could call that Middle Eastern influence!

14. Thanks CB
but in Germany we don't celebrate Thanksgiving.

What we have is the St. Martin's Day on November 11th (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Martin%27s_Day) but it isn't a holiday.

18. AH... but you have FASCHING!!!!
.
.
.
A New Orleans-like season of celebration lasting from St. Martin's day (I
think) until "Fat Tuesday" (the day prior to Ash Wednesday) in March(???).
.
.
.
I certainly miss THAT!!!
.
.
.
And it was certainly a LOT more fun than Thanksgiving with all its stress
and family angst.

15. I would trade all the turkey in the world for some GOOD sauerbraten...
.
.
.
.
.
...as I've never found a German restaurant here in the States that
made what I would consider "good" sauerbraten.
.
.
.
I'd even keep the cranberry sauce and stuffing for side dishes.
.
.
.
Ironically, McCormick (or one of the major spice companies) used to
sell a "Roastin' Bag" with spices for "instant" sauerbraten cooked
at home (no need to marinate it for days -- I think you just added
vinegar and baked your roast in it) that was sublime.
.
.
.
But, of course... they discontinued what might have been one of their
greatest achievements.
.
.
.

16. I honestly can do without Sauerbraten
now .... a good Roulade with Spätzle and red cabbage is something to die for :D

17. M-m-m-m, I had forgotten about Rouladen...
.
.
.
...HEY!!! I just made a little poem.
.
.
.
The BEST thing I ever had in Germany was in a little corner gasthaus
in a little village outside of Nurnberg -- Zigeunerschnitzel.
.
.
.
I probably wouldn't do Schnitzel justice -- but that sauce would be
dynamite on a LOT of things.
.

19. And the smaller the restaurant...
...the better the sauerbraten. :9 I'm also a total dumpling fiend, and I would't say no to a good serving of Maultaschen either.

Cafe Mozart in Washington, D.C., serves sauerbraten, and it's pretty good, but they can't manage chicken paprikas for some reason.
