Billy Joel 'Extremely Well' After Hip Surgery

The Piano Man is on the mend.

Last week, Billy Joel, 61, opted to have surgery on both his hips to treat a congenital ailment, PEOPLE confirms.

"Billy Joel is doing extremely well following bilateral hip replacement," says Joel spokeswoman Claire Mercuri.

No word yet, though, on how quickly Joel – who toured earlier this year and recently promoted a documentary film The Last Play at Shea – will make it back to the stage.
