2. Of all the musicians who are straight I think he is the straightest.
And when he called out Bruce Springsteen, well that made me hate him. To even compare that BJ is even in the same ballpark, much less league, is ludicrous.

3. He "called him out"
From what I've read the two are friends.

Two different styles of music. No comparison between the two.

6. I saw him live last February.
With Elton John on the Face 2 Face tour.

I like Elton John more. Seeing Elton John was on my bucket list. But they were BOTH awesome.
Did damn well for a couple of guys in their 60s.

And no, I don't think you can compare him to Bruce. I have seen Bruce live twice.

9. Reminds me of a great old joke from Creem...
About the time Eddie had his hip replacement done, I think it went "Eddie Van Halen's idea of a hip replacement is Gary Cherone."

13. Sigh. Why do I always have to defend shmucks? Look, I don't think Billy Joel is great "rock music."
But he crafted some of the best pop songs of his era (which I would consider, oh, about 1973-1983). Comparing him to rock music of that era is ridiculous. Those years were banner ones for rock in all its forms, from the bombast of Led Zeppelin to the birth of punk, etc. But compare him to the pop music of that era, and he actually holds up pretty well. In other words, rather than look at him in competition with Springsteen, as is done elsewhere in this thread, compare him to Debby Boone, the Bee Gees, Elton John, the Carpenters, etc., and I think you have to admit he's actually pretty good.

14. Someday you, too, will be old...if you live long enough.
Actually, he was a good pop song writer and played the piano fairly well.
He seems to have some problems with alcohol...Bill, you are too old for that shit - straighten up.
