CNN San Francisco - Mayor Gavin Newsom announced a novel...and so far, highly unpopular...proposal for shrinking the city's budget deficit. Each time a San Francisco resident bangs a gong and / or gets it on, they will pay a $2 tax.
Newsom said that the idea came to him while driving across the Dumbarton Bridge one August afternoon. "I had the top down, it was TOTALLY bitchin'...and right after they played "Dragon Attack" by Queen...OMFG, you NEVER hear THAT one on the radio...they played "Bang A Gong (Get It On)" by The Power Station. I know it's a T-Rex song, but Robert Palmer and those Duran Duran guys REALLY rock the house, really bring that mutha OUT. So I'm driving across the bridge and thinking there must be a LOT of people in my city banging the gong on a daily basis, and they're probably even gettin' it on WHILE they're bangin' it, so why not make a little cheddar for the city by the bay...OH! Journey, "Lights!" See how I did that?"
When asked for his response to the Mayor's plan, Governor Arnold Shwarzenegger said "I think he's got a fuckin' screw loose or something."
