Well, for the first time in 16 months of either being un or underemployed, I'm back driving OTR.

Start a new gig driving a car haul truck again, something I did for about 5 years,

The last time I loaded one was 2004, but it should come right back to me..

The tractor in the first pic is a Freightliner. The one I'll be driving is a Volvo. 7 cars headed to Hotlanta tomorrow then reload 10 for Missouri. Then, who knows. The company has 48 state authority, so perhaps I'll run into Jmowreader and or Tobin out there.

Here we go. After being off it since 2006......

6. Well, there is that and a couple other things.....

Hauling cars in a truck with a sleeper....well...SUCKS!

The last car haul job I had was driving a "Day Cab", that is one without a sleeper bunk. Which meant that if I was out overnight, I had a hotel card with which to get a room at a Super 8 or a Ramada or a Days Inn. Walking across a carpeted floor to do the 3 S's in the morning (Sh*t, Shower and Shave) beats the LIVING HELL out of having to walk across a 40 acre truckstop parking lot to do the same thing.

Plus, the last gig was delivering new cars almost exclusively and this will be used units, auction units, private vehicles, dealer trades and salvage units, some of which are guaranteed to be non-runners. It can be a major pain in the ass, particularly the auctions. Some of the car auction yards in this country are HUGE and often they will say "your units are over there" waving to the back forty. Literally. Finding the ten units you are sent to carry out of there in a sea of thousands of other cars can and has been in my experience, a 6 or 7 hour ordeal.

But since I haven't driven big trucks for 4 years, I was having difficulty finding a company that would put me on, even though I have 20 years of driving history and an excellent safety record. They all wanted "recent" experience.

But it should be close to a grand a week take home and after a year and a half of not much at all, I'll take it.
