MEDIA hype surrounding the anti-impotence drug Viagra has inflated men's expectations to the point where, if the drug does not work, they suffer severe distress and feel even more impotent than before they took it.
Research published by the British Medical Journal has found the higher the expectation of the drug's effects, the greater the disappointment when it does not work.
The British researchers said "the blow was severe" when Viagra did not work the first time and a proportion of men were so disappointed they did not try again.
"Many thought they had failed yet again in their life, adding to their already existing feeling of worthlessness," the researchers wrote.
